The At Merrill House

This was my second visit to the restaurant at Merrill House and was not disappointed in the least. My starter was the wine braised calamari while my partner started with the PEI mussels marinara. Each of us opted for the wine pairing suggested on the menu. The calamari were tender tasty and sublime. My partner swooned over the size and freshness of the mussels. The wines were perfect compliment to each dish bringing out the best of both the wine and the food. We both opted for Enright Beef Tenderloin seared with braised oxtail bits and port wine jus for our main course. Our reservation was for 17:30 and we arrived to a very quiet restaurant where we were offered the choice of tables. We were immediately offered our choice of waters and presented with menus. Upon ordering, wine came immediately and we received a complimentary warm pastry/small roll . The remaining courses were served in short order without any sense of waiting or being rushed. Staff were friendly and welcoming; the experience and the meal were wonderful.

The food was excellent. Servers were friendly and helpful. The restaurant is fitted into a refurbished gracious Victorian style house. The space available for the restaurant is the basement. It is clean and pleasant for a basement, but it is difficult to create a luxurious ambiance in that space. Nevertheless, the food and servers make up for that to some extent. I would certainly recommend the unique cuisine.
