Came here for a birthday dinner for my husband, but I didn't enjoy my meal. First, the calamari appetizer- I have had quite a number of calamari dishes, but this one didn't cut it for me (including others at the table except one person), but I couldn't place my hand on what it was. Then, I requested that the protein in my dish be swapped (no beef or chicken, so I asked for shrimp). I was told I would have to pay for that, which maybe wasn't bad, but the price was what cut me off. I then requested a different dish. Next, I requested roasted vegetables with halibut. I recently dined at the newly opened Blackwall Barn and Lodge at Merriweather on a Wednesday when they had a half-off pasta special. I opted for the Chesapeake pasta, featuring Pan Seared jumbo Shrimp, Jumbo Lump Crab (although not as jumbo as expected), Asparagus, Heirloom Cherry Tomatoes, and Lobster Cream Sauce. The dish had excellent potential but was marred by an excessive amount of Old Bay seasoning, resulting in overpowering saltiness. I had a wonderful evening at the stunning New Blackwall Barn Lodge. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all exceptional. It's such a pleasure to have a restaurant of this quality—one that isn’t part of a chain—in Columbia. I had a wonderful dining experience with excellent service, and the food was quite good. We ordered a variety of dishes, and while some were exceptional, others didn't quite hit the mark. My main complaint was the noise level; there was a piano player that evening, and it was too loud for the number of guests in the restaurant. Overall, I enjoyed my dinner experience.

The ambiance was beautiful as the last times I was here with company. However, only 2 people on my table really enjoyed their meals. Overall, the waiter and manager were nice, but I think it's one of those days, thar they didn't get the food choices right.
