In planning our first visit to Melbourne, I had gotten several recommendations for “the restaurant at the Botanical Garden,” which turned out to be Botanical, 169 Domain Rd, Melbourne.The restaurant has a lovely little “shop-like” entrance, and sidewalk seating for its “bistro,” but that was not in use, on this cold, rainy morning. As it was Lunch, we were seated in the interior area of the bistro section. The more formal dining room was lovely, and I can imagine that Dinner there would have been nice, as well. The Botanical was a great favourite of our family back in the days when owned by Chris Lucas. Then it slowly faded. We never really enjoyed the re-arranged front section and disappeared bottle shop.But this night we decided to book the restaurant and we were very pleasantly surprised.Food was to a very good standard and service was above average. We thought the overwhelmingly male crowd was a bit strange - until we learned it was sirloin steak night.My other delight of this night was the discovery that the "wine wall" continues and what a pleasure to wander along deciding on a bottle to choose for dinner.For a French style of smart, casual brasserie food - you can't go wrong.
A colleague invited me to The Botanical for an early dinner. It has a smart bistro feel and an enticing menu. Had the hanger steak special - excellent. A nice IPA before dinner and a Vic Shiraz with the steak - very happy. Service was good and all up I would definitely return.
There was no pig on the menu but that was made up by the waiters attitude ..rude and arrogant . Appalling service . Food was ok .. tuna loin entree .. not sure I have ever seen a loin of tuna before ...award winning no more .. pass

We had just spent 2 glorious hours wandering around the Botanical Gardens on an unexpectedly mild Melbourne April afternoon and were looking for a beer and a snack. Exiting the South Gate, drawn by cooking aromas
Varied menu...good food... a little pricey but then it's probably one up on standard pub food and the service is fast and good. Suitable for all ages, a little nosy but a cosy welcoming atmosphere.
We visited The Botanical on a warm afternoon and were greeted with lovely balcony seating and great service. Had a great time, enjoyed the food, but found the wine list was over the top pricey!
Someone at my dinner party mentioned they filmed the Real Housewives of Melbourne here and I can see why.
