The Chequers - Reservar una mesa

we went to lunch on Saturday morning. as usual, eating was very good. I did not have too often fish and chips, but went for it and was not disappointed. the cod was huge and freshly prepared. only excellent. my other... half had the sampi and chips she thought was good. there were about other couples in the pub. presumably standard for a miserable Saturday midday. so I can't say how the things could be if very busy, but I've been here for years and it never disappointed. if they like ale, there is always a reasonable choice of the bar that was always of good quality from me.

What a place this is. Not only beautiful, comfortable and relaxed but the food....well the meals are superb. The portions are very generous and delicious. We had pies which were excellent quality, both meat and pastry. The portions really are very generous and we were...trying our best to do justice to our meals but ended up having to leave some as we were full to the top. The waitress was lovely, very attentive and on hand to check everyone was ok. Well worth a visit (booking recommended) you won't want to go anywhere else.

We moved into the area earlier this year and have visited The Chequers for dinner three times. Our most recent visit was the last Friday in the month which is Fish Chip Friday Excellent food on each occasion and absolutely hugh portions. A good...regular menu and specials board also. Prices are reasonable. Fabulous old country pub, good ambience and very good service. We love it here. Thank you Chequers!

we spent a night in this country pub while going the Peddar’s way and it was exactly what we needed. comfortable room with hot water and a matte and hook for boots and waterproof; really generous snacks in the room; a sturdy dinner Monday is a pie night! and a warm and friendly welcome from richard and his team. what do you need more?

A very traditional dog friendly pub that serves good food. My partner chose and thoroughly enjoyed the salmon quiche, whilst I had delicious mushrooms in a Stilton sauce, followed by steak and ale pie with mash. The portions were large and the food was very...tasty.
