DO NOT GO HERE: my friends and i decided to come here last minute for a quick meal while in point pleasant. it was almost 8:30 and although the place closes at 9:00, we were told that it was fine so we sat, figuring we would be quick and leave a generous tip. as soon as we sat we quickly ordered waters, and the manager came over and said we better order quick because he is closing soon. we said okay, and then two minutes later placed our dinner order. by the time the food came out we had all almost finished our drinks but the waiter was nowhere to be seen. we began eating and suddenly all realized our food was incredibly spicy. there were four of us who all got some sort of spaghetti dish with sauce, and it was so hot that we could barely eat it. our mouths were on fire and by now we all had nothing to drink. as well as this, the pasta was so mushy and overcooked that it was barely edible. we saw through the window that the waiter was sitting at an empty table on his phone, so he easily could have come to check on us and fill our drinks. my friend even found jalapeños in her chicken parm, which is unusual at best. then all the lights went off and it wasn’t even closing yet and many people were still eating. by the time the waiter came back we asked for the check and he finally brought us water as we were leaving. we still left before many other tables, so it wasn’t like a big inconvenience. normally i wouldn’t blame the waiter for a bad meal, but he never came to check in and we could see him on his phone. later at night my friend was profusely vomiting, another was having spicy hiccups, and my last friend sharted in her pants. i’m not sure if they were mad we came in so late and did this for revenge, or if the restaurant is genuinely always a bad experience. either way, i’d never recommend and would say to STEER CLEAR FROM THE COAL HOUSE.

This used to be my go-to when frequenting the shore, but when I ordered carry out tonight I was really disappointed. I always ordered the eggplant panini with a big house salad, this time I also got the bruschetta appetizer. The bruschetta was incredibly fresh tasting, as was the salad, as always—but I couldn’t even bite through the panini. The bread was very awkward, as if they took three very end slices of stale bread and stacked them on top of each other, just sloppy. The bread was impossible to eat through, even the toasts that came with the bruschetta. I was not impressed at all and regret spending money on it. Hard times are upon us and if I’m taking some of my money to enjoy a meal out, I expect it to at least be fully edible.

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! We love eating at the Coal House bistro on Arnold Avenue in point Pleasant. They give you huge portions of food that is to die for! This is one of my favorite places to take my girlfriend. Frank, one of the hosts, is very kind accommodating. It’s a shame I can only give five stars. I would give it ten if I could!!!!!! PS if you like chicken, the Marsala and Francaise is delicious!!! Joseph Zicchino DDS
