The Horseshoes Inn

On holiday in the area and was keeping an eye out for pubs we passed, to visit later. I always check on Trip Advisor first. I picked another pub initially which had lovely sea views. However, as there were a lot of reviews about rude staff, over priced food and meagre portions, I chose the Horseshoe Inn instead. What a great meal we had! My husband had the gammon and said it was the best one he’d ever tasted. I had the ham salad, this was gorgeous as well. The chips were home made, soft and fluffy inside, again gorgeous. Came for Sunday lunch after seeing the excellent Trip Advisor reviews. The village location was lovely, as were the staff and the service was good. We were however, disappointed with the quality of the food. Upon arrival we were disappointed not to smell the aroma of food cooking. We had three Sunday lunches and our children had fish and chips (because the pie was not available). The meat itself was either packaged or braised, not roasted (hence the lack of fresh aroma from food being cooked) and the roast potatoes were over cooked and difficult to cut. Absolutely fantastic lunch here today could not fault one thing. Probably the best Sunday roast lunch I have ever eaten. Two beef and one pork, all very well cooked and really fresh ingredients with a really nice selection of vegetables. Children's chicken goujons and chips was a massive portion but they let us take away the leftovers. Staff super friendly and helpful without being in your face. Would highly recommend in terms of value for money, service and quality of food. To be honest gutted we are here on hobday so can't come.back here every week!

An absolute gem. I took a group of work colleagues here for tea Good menu choice, something for everyone which is usually a challenge due the the large age range of our group, food was very good and delivered quickly, good choice of drinks too, the Farne blonde went down very well. Mark and Louise could no do enough, great ambiance with a real country pub vibe. I am sure we will all be returning pretty soon Reserva una mesa ahora

Not your pub standard fayre, so visit when you're hungry . Very generous portions of beautifully cooked food. Welcoming staff who were attentive but not intrusive. We visited three times in a week whilst touring the area and had good hearty meals each time. Recommended. Tip: When booking tell them that you have a dog, they love them, but you'll have a table in the bar.

Very friendly atmosphere. very efficient service. Excellent food. What more could anyone want? We have rediscovered the Horseshoes in recent months. It was always excellent and nothing has changed. The only question is why there are not long queues outside waiting to sample the tasty home cooked food. We will be back very soon

This pub is definitely a go to when visiting the area and is a great find. The staff are very welcoming and friendly too. The food is also gorgeous as well as plentiful (the homemade chips are amazing) and we did manage to squeeze room in for dessert which was equally as nice! Would definitely recommend.

A great place as a traditional pub in a small village a few miles from Alnwick and the coast. Straightforward menu that avoids the dreaded pretentious gastro pub habits that spoil so many eating places these days. Friendly service and few if any children the evening we visited. Will return. Staff were fantastic and attentive. Service was great and the food was excellent! A warm welcome and a place I would love to return to. Meal portions were huge! I recommend the Gammon!

Make sure you are hungry when you visit. The food is tasty and plentiful. Lovely friendly staff. The sharing nachos are a meal in themselves
