The Igloo Roadhouse

I called into this roadhouse which is in effect an old style general store with a cafe type establishment added on. It was quiet inside and the shelves were all stocked. Some customers were at tables outside while the shop assistant was making fairly good sized burgers for them inside. It has won several awards for their burgers. So I waited. The wait was no imposition as I was in no hurry. The assistant rushed out to feed the waiting outside and then apologised for the delay but it was no problem. Beware of being overcharged. This has always been a favourite stop on our travels but sadly will no longer be. Partner ordered and paid and was a bit concerned as to how our meal for 2 cost most than the family of 4 we were with (similar food and drinks ordered). Went back in to discuss with owner and he was very rude and argued the point. He told us the prices on the board are not correct because everything has gone up and he doesn’t have time to change the prices every day! Pointed to a sign stuck to the counter dated 2020 saying prices have had to rise but new prices are on the board with a hand written disclaimer saying it may be $1 more. Don't be deceived by the exterior the food here is great and there is indoor or outdoor seating. We checked in and the owner asked us if we had which is reassuring. Running a popular lunch spot single handed can't be easy but the food is certainly worth the short time it takes to prepare from scratch. The Schnitzel Burger with the lot was big but just what you need after a hard morning fishing. Sauce, Bacon, Egg, Onions, Schnitzel, lettuce more sauce and the bun tasty and crispy schnitzel crust. Sitting outside among the trees with the native birds dropping in was a great way to spend lunch.

The Buxton Burger is an old style jaw stretching burger. It is generous and tasty and certainly fills your tummy. You can eat in or take away. The facility is pretty tired but it doesn't pretend to be anything Moran it is, an old style Roadhouse. Staff are polite, friendly and helpful. It is a consistent in a speck of a town that doesn't offer too many options.

We had the vegie burgers but the Buxton burger was a winner with our son, a whole meal right there! Wow
