My love affair with the Napier Hotel started way back in 1989/1990. I was a semi regular up until about the year 2001, after that I moved away from dear old Melbourne to the more watery New Zealand. I`ve been to the Napier about five...times in the last 18 years. Not a lot has changed, I did notice some tasteful acoustic treatment to the ceiling in the dining room. the Toilets have been upgraded, ummm cant really see many other changes. Still has the traditional axminster pub carpet. always has been a great pub. the Napier, for some reason unknown to anyone has had the most mellow vibe of any Fitzroy Hotel. Even back in the 80`s when Fitzroy could get a tad rough, (hard to imagine now up the...

I went for lunch here one day and I ordered a chicken parmigiana (or parmie in Australian) because everyone one knows that this is the lunch of champions. When it came out it overhung the plate by several inches. I estimate it was 17 inches long. You could get kangaroo on it instead of ham but I'm an old school sort of bloke so chose the ham. I have to say it was an outstanding parmie and has entered our private folklore as a talking point. For me it was a happy story of conquest, for my wife a story of shame. Anyhow... I was halfway through this monster parmie when she asked if she could have some since I had plenty. I reluctantly agreed and she cut off a good size portion and then threw it...

This was one of my favourite places in Melbourne, but the current staff seem to have had a very traumatic pandemic (or this is what they insisted on telling me) and apparently think this justifies them behaving with a proud beligerence (that's the kindest why...I can describe what we experienced) with regard to unrelated matters (a query re. overcharging). Luckily there are lots of great pubs in the area. After seeing what was going on we decamped to the Union Club Hotel (just two minutes' walk away). Drinks were 25% cheaper, we could sit on the footpath under the trees (much nicer), and the staff seemed to have made it through covid without any hint of nastiness or beligerence (indeed they...

Went here based on recommendation from my son who is on a gap year, and in total five of us enjoyed a good time and some decent food. This place is much more like a proper pub, so worth the slight effort (a A$12 and 10 minute Uber journey) of moving away from central Melbourne.Excellent atmosphere, big selection of beers, and some damned big tasty portions!! Three lads all had chicken Parma topped with kangaroo, and I went for a very tasty kangaroo fillet topped with a Bearnaise sauce. Quick tip is that we ate 6.45pm on a Wednesday and booked a table; I suggest if you are heading out to this place you also book a table, because, even though it's a big place, it was certainly busy. You wont le... Decided to try the Napier because of the REAL open fire and Sunday roast. Didn't expect the eclectic decor and atmosphere and genuine not "curated" charm, replete with local characters. Long tables for families or to share with friends or strangers add to the appeal. slow roasted brisket was unctuous and generously provided with traditional vegetables. MIL had a prawn stew so something for everyone. rhubarb and Anzac biscuit crumble was a cut above your average pub. will be back to try more of the regular menu. wine list though not extensive is honest and balanced and well priced

I hadn't been here in a long time, and was having a catch-up for dinner with some family members. I walked in through the bar, saw the Fitzroy jumpers on display and remembered this was in the movies of the Jack Irish novels. Good pub food. Laid back atmosphere. The wait and bar staff are very attentive and helpful. Meals are delicious and generous. It's a good inner suburb hotel for a meal if you're in the area.

The pub is nice and the atmosphere is good. The neighborhood where it is located is very nice and full of clubs. I ate here at the suggestion of a friend of mine who has lived in Australia for years and he said it was the best place to taste kangaroo. HE WAS RIGHT, great, soft and tasty meat.

I am visiting Australia from the US and this place has fantastic Kangaroo. The staff recommended a fantastic Pinot from Tasmania to pair with the "Roo". This place has a very cool culture and is well worth a visit. Will recommend this place to coworkers, friends, and visitors. Reserva una mesa ahora

Napier Hotel is a bar/hotel/restaurant in Fitzroy (the place for you if Melbourne is not hipstery enough for ya). The inside was ok, but I paid 13$ for a pint of beer?!?! They should be candidates for winning "most expensive pint in Straya".
