I ordered the Huevos Rancheros. The food was good. No complaints on the quality of the food or the service. Didn't have to wait long and it was busy for a Saturday late morning. Eggs and hash browns were cooked just right. It was just a little too bland for my taste. Would have been great with some fresh salsa but this is Mel's so that meant showering it with tabasco sauce to give it some flavor. I would go here again but only to order standard American dishes.
How can anyone not adore Mel's? My daughter and I always enjoy a fantastic meal there. The service is consistently top-notch, and the food is not only delicious but also a great value. I strongly recommend trying the Turkey Bacon Cheeseburger—it comes with cheddar cheese and a whole wheat bun, and it’s simply amazing! Other favorites of ours include the Reuben and the Chicken Club.
Slow communication between hostess server created minor confusion over drink orders. This was fine but also odd as server seemed slightly rushed and pushy (i.e. interrupted table chatter). One might think she'd been waiting forever to take the orders that were already taken. Food was fantastic and service great otherwise. I'll be back for sure.
Great place with a old style feel! Staff was super friendly and completely on top of things with awesome service! Food was magnificent! Plenty of options and not to pricey! The chicken strips were incredibly tasty and came in a hearty serving. Our top pick was definitely the sampler, which even featured zucchini sticks that were juicy and cooked to perfection. The zucchini sticks were a wonderful surprise, and I hope they become a regular part of the sampler.
The fish was soft and reminded me of the frozen kinds you typically find in supermarkets. The coleslaw came in a tiny portion, served in the same container as the tartar sauce, which was barely a tablespoon and a half. I've been to Mel's twice, but I won’t be ordering from them again.
If you're in Southern California, this place brings to mind Ruby's, which I absolutely adore. Mel's never lets me down; I've never had a negative experience here. On top of that, the jukeboxes are really awesome!
