I hate to give River Grille such an average rating, but here is my take. Chatham, NJ, does not have a whole lot of selection when it comes to dining. There are some great places and some not so great places. In my opinion, River Grille slides right in the middle. For starters, it’s a great neighborhood bar, seems very fun and intimate. They have plenty of seating, indoor and outdoor. The only bad part was the amount of flies outside.. I had to constantly be vigilant and karate chop flies away from my fries. Food was great. Service was very poor. Ordered an onion ring appetizer for 3 people. It was delivered to table by cook staff. Waitress just played on her phone, 2 tables away! Ate at table without plates. Main dishes were again brought out by cook staff. AGAIN waitress just played on her phone. Never refilled water or asked how meal was. Never checked up on us. Get the wings! They have a scale of hotness, I went for the 3rd hottest (Jamaican Jerk and I devoured them, sweat on my forehead, pulse racing. If I'm coming back to NJ in this area, I will be eating wings here! Otherwise good beer selection drafts/cans/bottles. Friendly staff, TVs with sports on all the time.
