Terrible service. Been three times because we kept telling ourselves to give them a chance. Wont be back a fourth. Always seems like they have new staff but i know theyve been there for a while. Bathroom disgusting made me lose my appetite and our table was dirty when we got there. A small plate of home fries as a side was way too over priced as well. Saw them put dirty dishes out in the open on the counter in front of all the customers for everyone to see. Way too hot in there to. No AC to cool down the place. Entire place smells like grease. The sign on the front said "Shady Pines Coffee Shop". We were searching for breakfast early Sunday morning, not wishing to partake of the skimpy continental breakfast offering at our motel. Located on the eastern outskirts of Chatham, we were first attracted by the many cars in the parking lot.Entering the outwardly humble establishment, we were greeted by a very typical (in a good way) small town diner, well filled with chatty local families and couples.The walls were decorated with historic pictures of the founders and the restaurant (they offered cabins also). Shady Pine Restaurant is an awesome breakfast diner! The food is always good & plentiful & price is reasonable. There is usually a special for lunch consisting of usuallysoup & sandwich type or burger & fries. They close at 2pm.This restaurant serves the best homemade pies ever! Their lemon merange is amazing!Haven't had a butter tart that can match Shady Pines! You can purchase a whole pie or dozen or half of butter tarts. Local home cooked food, prepared and presented with personality and familiarity. If you are travelling to or through Chatham, this is a great breakfast (WAFFLE!) and lunch spot where are the locals meet, connect, cajole with each other. You are sure to run into someone you know! Beef Barley soup - excellent - all sandwiches made with freshly slow roasted meats and not prepared/deli meets - delicious. I recommend Roast Beef on Rye or Turkey Club. Prices are excellent and if you can find room, pies and tarts are delicious - old fashioned recipes.
Found this place driving by one day and went back to try it out. So happy we did. I had the waffle breakfast with fruit and whiped cream. I would have preferred fresh fruit as the fruit seemed to have been frozen and was very cold. My husband had one of the egg breakfasts with home fries, bacon and toast. You got a lot and it was very good. The coffee is very good as well. The staff were very friendly. It's been around for a long time and seems to be a popular place.
This is a popular local diner (breakfast and lunch only). Homemade daily specials, giant pies and tarts for dessert. Large menu - you will definitely find something that you like. Bring the family - casual dining. You get a full plate for a reasonable price. Daily specials usually around $6-$7. Breakfast is a favorite here.
