The Shady Rest Waterfront

The Shady Rest is definitely one of my more favourite places to visit, even with the 45 minute drive. The food is super tasty, the view and atmosphere is pleasant and enjoyable, and the drinks are delicious. Whenever we have a special occasion, or a night off, it's our go to place. However, the service has never really been that great. On the multiple times we've been there, it's rare that we receive a timely quality check, and are never asked "do you need anything else?". The last time we were there, it was for my birthday, and I was there to buy some drinks and have a good time. One of only a couple of ocean view haunts in Qualicum Beach. Has a nice view without question. But it is old, and has been somewhat neglected in maintenance, and upkeep. In need of a total deep clean and new face. Prices have crept up over the years, as elsewhere, but now seems to think it does not need to keep earning loyalty....staff friendly, food okay. It could be THE place on the beach , but not in its present form. Guess it is too scary to make the leap of faith and cost.

Het was prachtig weer, dus wilden we op het terras zitten. Dat kon wel, maar de parasol die we opstaken moest weer in. Het waait er vaak te hard voor een beetje schaduw op het terras, jammer! Dus binnen en het is gewoon niet erg sfeervol. De serveerster was echt een stripfiguur haast, het kon haar allemaal niet veel schelen, niet erg communicatief ook verder hahahaha. Aardig gegeten, maar ook niet meer dan dat.

We were in Qualicum Beach for a couple of nights and were looking for a pub. Choose the Shady Rest for it's beer selection plus the most important item. poutine! I ordered a flight of local beers to sample. Especially enjoyed the Hoyne Dark Matter. Tried the dry ribs, not a fan, the pickle spears, yes, and the poutine. Hadn't been to the Shady Rest for years but had dinner and lunch there recently and would definitely recommend. Being right on the ocean makes for a perfect view while you eat. The food was very good. The fresh oysters were perfect and the seafood fettuccine was excellent as well. The service both times was great as well. Won't be such a long time before we go eat there again!

Our son and I are on vacation on Vancouver Island. We stopped in to the Shady Rest for a late lunch and ate in the pub. The food was excellent. We had beef dip, nachos, and dry ribs. All were excellent. Great flavour and portions. We had a panoramic view of the ocean. The lady who served us was very helpful and very pleasant. We will be back.

Although the wait was a little longer than normal, the food was great and the view is perfect. Staff is friendly and helpful.The restaurant is not of high quality (it could use some fresh paint and little more renovation) but the food makes up for it.

Stopped here recently with our family during our vacation. Sat outside on the patio which is beautiful overlooking the ocean. Ordered the fish and chips, fish tacos and kids grilled cheese - everyone loved it! Super tasty. Definitely will come back. Reserva una mesa ahora

Il cibo è buono anche se un po' pasticciato (ma è in linea con il mercato!). Servizio cortese anche se un po' troppo sbrigativo.Sicuramente ciò che vale più di tutto è la posizione la conseguenziale vista del mare.

We stopped in for a pint and a bite to eat and loved the calamari, soup of the day & the views! It's right on the beach & has parking. The dishes were well sized & fairly priced.
