Timberlands offers a quirky locally owned alternative to the chain hotels that line the trans Canadian highway. Check in at the hotel is combined with a popular local Chinese restaurant. It can be a bit off putting at first if you accustomed chain hotels, but upon further reflection, Timberland was a welcome respite from the droning sameness. Check-in was quick and the staff/owners of the hotel are friendly and accommodating. The rooms are rustic, but again offer a nice variation from the generic homogeneous nature of chain hotels. This is my second time at this hotel. It appears to be under different ownership. The second floor rooms are like lodges, with cathedral ceilings and a large fan. A nice sitting area is separated from the bedroom by a large shelf/entertainment unit, all in warm wood. My room had a jacuzzi tub. The patio door opens allowing for a nice breeze. Each room has a small patio set and the balcony rooms have a view of the lake. The only suggestion I have is to omit/reduce the amount of deodorizer in the rooms. Very strong and unnecessary. The room was newly renovated. We walked to a public beach nearby on a new sidewalk. What a delight to meet six young deer munching the grass on the neighbour's lawns. Rooms: We found the lights outside the room to be too bright. Shutting the bathroom door helped. Nearby activities: You can walk safely along the shoreline street where there is a new sidewalk. The public beach has wheel chair accessible ramps for access. Walkability: It is quite hilly so you get a workout quickly. Although the locals walk the busy highway, I wouldn't recommend it as the traffic is fast and there are no clear pedestrian areas.

I stayed here for two nights in early April this year; one night longer than I intended due to a snowstorm meaning I didn't want to keep driving that day. Quite pricey (but I guess that's the result of being in such a touristy place , but a comfortable room with a good view (when it wasn't hidden by the storm! , and the staff were very flexible when I asked last minute if I could stay another night due to the weather. Upon checking in, our room had not been cleaned (garbage full, hair in bed) and spiders were covering the walls. Front desk staff was reasonable and offered an immediate refund or another similar room. The second room seemed to have been cleaned, however the toilet and sink would not drain, we didn't even bother trying the shower. The property was severely lacking in any sort of dedicated upkeep. It is under new management. The hotel restaurant and reception area is under construction. Rooms are clean but had a strong smell of cleaning agent. I had much higher expectations from the hotel. It's a diamond in the rough. Previously the Brewers In, but with new management. The new people have done great. Never judge a book by its cover or store you find it in. Would recommend this to anyone in need of reasonable accommodations in the Keewatin area. Rooms: 5 Service: 5 Location: 5

Walked into our room the walls and doors were covered in spiders. Looks like the sheets had not been changed were full of pet hair and dirt. Stayed one night in August 2023. Rooms and bedding/towels are clean and well maintained. Being near the lake makes the bugs a bit problematic but that applies to everything in the area. Owners are friendly. Rooms: 4 Service: 4 Location: 4
