As a local, I 've walked past Tokyo Syokudo hundreds of times but last night was my first visit. Gone was the familiar 'EFTPOS is out of order ' sign. It was time to enter.<br/ <br/ Despite being a busy Saturday night, I was accommodated without a booking. I had limited time before the next customer had booked my table but it wasn 't a problem. Service was fast and friendly I ordered the Tokyo Toy Box, which was expedited in the kitchen under special instructions. The direct translation for Tokyo Syokudo is Capital Food Temple. This 'Temple ' is rather tiny so you may want to book, take away or start early. The chef prepared the food in a rather theatrical manner reminding me of the priest in the altar.<br/ <br/ The service is very good, the waitstaff keeps on apologising for not getting the food out quickly enough. Just for the record it took the 'Priest ' twenty minutes to prepare the food. This place is a hidden gem, a small and cosy restaurant that serves excellent and authentic Japanese food. Was initially discouraged by the string of recent bad reviews, but IGNORE THE 1 STAR REVIEWS. I received nothing but the best customer service, and left incredibly satisfied. Definitely will be coming back, and I recommend non-locals to seek this place out.
This is our usual place to dine if we want really yummy authentic Japanese food, my whole family and friends enjoyed the food every time! They do phone bookings and usually tried to accommodate us even without booking. The Salmon Belly sushi is definitely great value, so are the Lunch specials. Dinner menu is not big but all very delicious and freshly made.

I've been there many times. It's the only option around the area but food quality is outstanding.I always order the omakase (assorted nikiri sushi) and curry rice. Only down side of this place is you have to check when they open. They close during very odd times. But it is worth it to figure it out.
This is THE best Japanese restaurant i have ever been to. The 1 star ratings on this website are complete nonsense. I would recommend anyone try it if they like Japanese. Please note: the restaurant seats about 20 people only so make sure to book in advance! The Tuna Sushi is so **** delicious!
The only Japanese option in the suburb and it's real good! Sit down meals available but you can grab sushi to-go from the front cabinet some days too. Only a small sitting area so bookings recommended.
Another one of those unknown, great value gems in the unlikeliest of places. Tokyo Syokudo is a short order Japanese place with generous serves, efficient service and delicious food

Very good Japanese food. Bento boxes are great value and very filling. My family and I usually eat at Ashfield when we crave Japanese, but we've agreed this will be our new spot!
Had Omakase. Sushis are good. The shop is narrower than before. Taste and portion of food are good. Price is reasonable. Good place to for two people.
