I assumed the only compelling reason to visit Cadouin is the magnificent 12th-century Cistercian abbey, which is indeed worth the trip. But I now know that there is an unassuming restaurant a block or two from the abbey that provides pretty little Cadouin with another reason to drop in. Un Aire de Campagne is run by a very personable woman who clearly runs a tight culinary ship. In a region where it seems every menu features duck in one guise or another (or many! , the confit at UADC is a standout: luscious, unctuous meat wrapped in a super crisp skin, seasoned artfully. Man, I can taste it now! A superb rendition of cassoulet (including delicious local sausages that in themselves would be a...

We ate twice here because the food is so delicious and reasonably priced and the staff are so welcoming and friendly. Selection of menus or you can choose from the carte. (Sadly no sparkling wine but they offered me a very tasty bottle of Portuguese white wine. First menu I had foie gras, goats cheese salad, duck and walnut cake, all beautifully presented and delicious. The second visit I had goats cheese salad, duck thigh with dauphinoise and veg, and a chocolate pudding. They even had decaf coffee. Crockery was delightful. The seating is outside on the pavement, but don't be put off because the traffic is so light and you can hear the music from the village square. If in Cadouin you will r...

During our stay in the Dordogne, we made a visit to Cadouin to see the Abbey, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our plan was also to have lunch and how lucky for us that Un Air de Campagne was open as it was a Monday and others were closed. As it was a chilly day the cassoulet appealed to us and it was wonderful ... with local wine ... and delicious fruit tarts for dessert. What a surprise to learn that our hostess, Augusta, was not only the owner and but also the chef . . . and everything was homemade! She has much to be proud of! We would most definitely go again if we have the opportunity to return to the Dordogne.

Cadouin is a lovely unspoilt village with an historic Abbey. This was our principal reason for visiting this town and it turned out to be the highlight of our short visit to the Dordogne. Having parked our car we proceeded to walk towards the Abbey when we happened upon this charming restaurant. So, on our return from the Abbey and it being lunchtime we couldn't resist calling here. I had cassoulet, my wife had trout. Both delicious. Recommended.

We stayed various days in Cadouin and the Perigord and tried quite a few restaurants. To our big surprise (the menu is nearly everywhere the same so that you can compare easily), we got the best duck tenderloin (tender and juicy) and trout here in this little restaurant! Everything was handmade (grateful for something different than pommes frites)... Our only suggestion: warmer light to have a more compfy atmosphere. Thanks for the great meal!

It doesn't look great from the outside and doesn't have the prime location on the square outside the Abbey but the service and food make up for that. A charming little place with charming and efficient staff. A good variety of choice on the menu but we all opted for salads which were fresh, tasty and of ample size. The house wine was well priced and perfectly good. Would definitely pay a return visit.

First class, full of flavour, freshly made, quality ingredients. All of the food is prepared by the lady owner, and served by the owner. Amazing! We were so well looked after. Enjoyed our kir aperitif, I had warm goats cheese salad, such a tasty dressing, fresh walnuts and yummy lardon, then duck filets with honey and the duck was so good and the sauce superb, and home made fresh fig tart.

We had eaten here a couple of years ago with family who live in the Dordogne. We had lunch there last time and it was very good. Would it be quite the same. Yes and more. We both had a salad with cured duck etc. Superb. And the service was excellent again as well. The pichet of wine was equally as good. A lovely place to eat.
