Called in on the off chance last Saturday evening looking for a quick tea because everywhere was packed with long waits and ended up staying for hours. We haven't been for years because it had gone downhill and were delighted to see our favourite waiter Dan was still there. The pub's under new management (a fairly recent change) and Dan now runs the place for them. It felt just like the good old days. The food was excellent. Starters: delicious black pudding and goat's cheese two kinds of mushrooms in a lovely sauce on brushetta. Mains: rib eye steak melt in the mouth rump steak stroganoff sauce to die for, and very clearly freshly cooked to order. Prices were very reasonable. The atmosphere was brilliant; friendly and very welcoming despite it being very busy. The Unicorn used to be one of our favourite places to call in, especially if we wanted to eat and we've missed it. It is definitely back at the top of our list. Apparently it is due for a renovation in a few weeks and we can't wait to see what's done but will almost cetainly be back before they even start.

Always used to visit but have not been for a while As always a great traditional warm friendly pub atmosphere The staff, especially Dan the manager, were very friendly and efficient despite being rather short staffed that evening. Food has improved and is wonderful they seem to have got a proper chef in the kitchen and the quality and range has improved dramatically. I had Mushrooms on Bruchetta with garlic (sorry about the spelling! and it was wonderful lots of mushrooms of different types and lots of garlic but not overpowering. The RibEye steak was by far the tenderest and tastiest that I have had for a long time. My wife had the beef stroganoff and I tried the sauce which was also wonderful pudding were also great Overall it is now one of the best places for food in the area and still the same lovely warm atmosphere.

Haven't been In this place for years . I was passing and thought I'd pop in for old times sake .. so glad I did . It was almost as I remembered it from nearly 44 yrs ago ! Lovely oak beams and carvings in the grain . The memories came flooding back in the brief time I was there . Many thanks to the very nice , chatty and polite barmaid I think she said her name was Donna , who filled me in with a little of the history of the place and of the upcoming refurbishment . I really hope they do this place justice and not just do what other pubs and chains do , and rip the heart and soul out of the place . I love the interior of this pub .. it just oozes character ! I won't leave it so long next time . See you soon hopefully Donna !
