I just fancied some fish and chips so after looking up various sites I decided this place was the real goods. Parking outside was plentiful and the place was also easy to find.On entering I thought it doesn't look anything like the photo in trip advisor, in fact it was a bit shabby, I thought it didn't really matter as the food could be quite good.Service was quite quick. The cooking/frying was hidden away by some board that was erected to block out any sight of that which I thought was a bit odd.A mammoth amount of paper was used to wrap my feast which I thought was a bit old fashioned and over the top.Now the opening of my parcel brought out the wonderful smell that I so enjoy, on trying a...
Omg. Yes. Best feed. Super speedy. Great price. The chips are super crunchy and that's how I love them. We ordered 1 of almost everything and it was all good. My husband and I have just got back from 2 years travelling Australia and this is by far the best fish and chips we've had.

Vella's fish bar make the best fish burgers I've ever had. massive burger with large piece of fish fully stocked with carrot, beetroot, lettuce, cheese, sauce, tomato if wanted. everything. and always fresh. very reasonable price. I recommend this shop to anyone.

Being living in Australia for 29 years and have never found a good fish & chip shop till now. Have recently moved to Mackay and jumped on trip advisor for a recommendation and Vella's didn't disappoint the fish and chips were delicious.
Sausage was ok,i did have a chips,wrapped in 10s of paper,were soggy when i was willing to eat after 2 minute drive.they may be were crispy but the packaging let it down.may be visit again sometime to try again..
I love me a good fish joint and when it comes to a fish and chip night this is the place we head to. We don't even live nearby. There's a reason this place is always busy. Go and check it out. You'll enjoy.
Some crumbed fish of the day and crumbed calamari. The fish was really moist and the scallops were magnificent - almost melt in the mouth with a nice cruncy coating!

The best place to get fish n chips in Mackay. The packs are great value and service is really good. A place you will come back to time and time again.
