"Went to the Vilaroy with a group of 9 friends to have a meal and a good night out. This is a small and unusual restaurant:only seats about 30-35 patrons. The owner(I suppose) was the only person serving and he proved quite a strange experience The service was adequate but it was done without a smile or any good natured banter at all.Quite strange! The food was very good, I had a piece of fillet which was done to my liking and very tasty-could have done with a steak knife!"

Went with friends for brunch -we had booked, as we know this place is popular with the locals and doesn't hold all that many tables. Were given a nice quiet table at the back. This was the first time I'd been there and had noted other reviews pointing out that the owner is "surly". I wouldn't go that far, but he is certainly reluctant to raise a smile or give you a cordial greeting! Asked for a coffee in a mug and was told in no uncertain terms that "We don't do mugs!" - but the coffee was very good and the Croque Monsieur I had for brunch was very tasty and a lot less greasy than the genuine French version (though the 'salad' it came with consisted of some butter lettuce and a few shavings of raw onion - bit uninspired). The breakfast menu has some nice looking choices, not too pricey - though certainly not 'cheap eats'. I would go again- but be prepared to be entertained by the owner's idiosyncrasies, rather than be offended!

We took 14 people to Vileroy for breakfast to celebrate a special occasion. We had booked some weeks earlier as we were taking so many people. There is a very extensive menu and all of the choices are a good serve. We started breakfast with a glass of champagne . Some had the big Breakfast with the lot , others the omelette ( which is man size) the lemon souffle cakes looked great, as did the pikelets with lemon curd and cream. I always like the poached eggs with ham and hollandaise sauce with extra bacon..We finished the meal with tea and coffee.Nothing is too much trouble at this venue the manager is very obliging. All guests said they would be returning as they enjoyed the food.It is necessary to book if taking a lot of people .There is also an upstairs room.

I have been to the Vileroy a couple of times for coffee and always like the atmosphere. On this occasion I was at a private function in one of the meeting rooms upstairs. I can't help thinking that it was just an off-day. The staff are always very attentive and courteous. However, today, with approximately 14 of us it just seem to take an age to get served and the food bought to the table. The real let down, however, was the food. I ordered the steak with egg at $37- and it was tough and full of sinew - real same because the presentation looked great. Sorry guys can't recommend you on todays experience. Coffee is still good though.
