A lovely surprise to find a restaurant with an authentic American smoker. A short note before I add more. True BBQ is cooked low & slow (low temperature & for a long time) using indirect heat & wood that imparts flavour through its smoke. At the moment it is being done in a way to cater for the French pallette, so a lighter smoke flavour and not to highly seasoned or sauced. The chicken, traverse de porc & fillet mignon, had a lovely light smoke flavour, were moist & tender with a well flavoured herb & spice rub making a nice bark (outer layer) on the traverse. If you see a pink coloured area on your meet, it is caused by a reaction in the cooking method & not under cooking. The owner is ver...

The focus on local produce and producers is obvious with details in the menu of the sources of what you will eat and drink. There is a good selection of cocktails as well as beer and wine and, like the food, there is not too much choice - they know what they do well and they stick with it. Unsurprisingly, the meat was all excellent - the trio of meats (pork loin, ribs and a chicken thigh) was particularly good. One portion of ribs at our table was a bit fatty, but there was still plenty of food to go round. It's all presented on boards, garnished with home-pickled vegetables and accompanied by salad or the house mashed potato. Fries would have gone down well but are not an option. The limite...

Thinking we were going to a bbq restaurant was our mistake. Don't go here expecting ribs, burgers etc, it's not that sort of place. They do pulled pork, which was ok, but not the bbq pulled pork experience you may have had in the US or UK. It's a French restaurant that has a smoker in the garden, that when we were there, was used a couple of times to cook oysters. The food is based on local ingredients, which is good. Decor is great, funky vibe, good local bbq sauce, nice staff etc etc. Had we naively not been expecting a full on bbq experience, I'm sure we would have enjoyed it more.

Good food, nice location, friendly service, good for the kids too. The level of all this deserves 5 stars. The passion shown here for the food created would deserve 6 stars. I rarely encountered this. Questions were answered in detail and after the explanation it was even easier really appreciate the food and its quality - an educated appreciation. The style is not fully American as this would not sell here. It is more of a American inspired but European approach to BBQ and smoking combined with competence of a butchery. We all loved it, enjoyed our visit an will come back.
