"Regional and international dishes of quality with an impressive winelist. The classic Sauerbraten maybe a bit too "sauer" (usually sweet-sour with raisins that were omitted). Price fair, small outdoor dining on pretty courtyard. Part of picturesque hotel."

If you want to see a charmingly German wine village few tourists see and have a very competently prepared German focused meal. Friday lunch comprised a German cheese tart that did look like it had been sitting around a bit accompanied by a not so great salad. A main course of Dorade was delicious, soft and fresh flesh was perfect for the hot day especially accompanied by the ratatouille and green salad. The dining companion opted for Weiner Schnitzel which was very nice. much better than most of what we'd had in the area but not quite as good as good as the very excellent Ottenthal in Berlin. A dessert of cherry eis and three sorbets were ideal on the day followed by espressos. The service was expert and accommodating. If you want to experience the wines of the region Zum Krug's wine list will astonish you. There's a listing from almost every local wine maker in the area plus some very elderly (1975) and quite old (1959) vintages if you have the readies to spend. Several other diners tucked in to sauerbraten and dumplings., despite the heat. Hearty folks here.

We were aiming for the 'Adler Wirtschaft'; but it was closed. Zum Krug is exactly what you expect of a traditional village hotel/restaurant: all heavy, dark oak furniture and panelling. The food likewise: not bad; but somewhat over-salted, and with an excess of rich saucing. My colleague's Wiener Schnitzel she described as 'average'.The wine list was almost exclusively Rhein riesling, with small later sections labelled 'non-Riesling' and even - horribile dictu - red wines. The price was Euros 55 for the two of us - quite reasonable, for such a touristy village.Overall: adequate; not memorable.

The owners are understandably proud of their local products and wines. This restaurant exceeded our expectations and provided us with a meal that we will never forget. The owners engage with the diners and recommend wines to accompany meals. And what food! I had the local Venison with juniper's sauce, my wife had a dish with Scampi. Both meals were great. We sat at a table with a beautiful and entertaining couple from Hamburg that made the evening even more pleasant. A highlight of our trip to Europe.

Booked here when our first choice was closed for the evening - what a result!Great set menu dinner with friends who were looking for a finer dining experience than your traditional Weinstube. We were not disappointed. Great attention to detail with the service and the food was excellent. Great value and was very impressed that the chef still found time to come out and check all was ok with guests as well as say goodbye to everybody at the end of the evening. Will return next time we are in the region.
