My husband and I had lunch with his brother and his wife. We placed our order . The waiter had a problem with his pants. They were hanging so low we wondered if he would be able to keep them up. The apron was at the waist but pants were trying to fall off. It doesn't seem like you would want waiters or waitress's to dress this shabby in what is suppose to be a nice restaurant. I had the classic club without the turkey and bacon cooked crisp. It was served as ordered but it was so dry I had to ask for mayo. It came with chips but they didn't taste like homemade to me. My husband had the chicken livers at $15.99. They came with gravy and he had fries and vinegar cold slaw. He said they were ok...
This spot is great for brunch. I met two friends and we were welcomed warmly. The waitress was attentive without being bothersome. I had a hot brown eggs benedict with jalapeno cheddar grits and local watermelon. This meal was fantastic. I was able to visit with my friends after finishing our meals and weren't pressured to leave the restaurant for them to flip the table quickly. This mattered alot to us and we'll definitely be back. A great local spot!
The food was good. The server was very nice. The owner came and asked how everything was. You don’t get that in every restaurant. We tried the beer cheese and my mom had the Kentucky Hot Brown. She said it was very good. I had the Vegetable Platter and tried a few different sides. They had pea salad as a special so I got that and it was very good. You can’t get it just anywhere. The owner coming over is really what set this apart for 5 stars.
Winchell’s was recommended by our hosts, and did not disappoint. The Tomato Basil soup was amazing (we went twice while in Lexington and I had it both times. The trout as great and my friend enjoyed the steak sandwich. But the desserts…they were awesome. We had the Bourbon Bread pudding, Kentucky Derby Pie, Banana Pudding and the Lemon Blueberry special. We were driving through KY looking to try a few KY style foods. This place came up in a search for their Hot Brown and was open on New Year’s Day so we gave it a whirl and we’re pleased! The place was clean, had a nice menu selection, good food, and kind service. If you are looking for a bar and grill, I recommend this place!
Atmosphere a little dicey. Chairs were rickety, thought it might collapse any moment. It felt sticky, dirty windows were filthy. Ladies bathroom sink stool were clean looking, but the door to close the individual stalls looked like someone had clawed the wood around the bolts that held the door closed.
