The experience was so disappointing that the lack of a warm welcome and the rude service overshadowed everything else. The food itself was very impressive, but waiting an hour for it to be served made it not worth it. We were also told that we had to leave our table in 15 minutes, even though we were already an hour late getting our meal. It was unclear why we needed to rush when the delay was their mistake in the first place. The staff had little knowledge about the tea offerings or the high tea selections, and their lack of engagement only added to our frustration. I am truly disappointed, Yugen! I can’t believe this place is still open given how poorly they are managing the basics.
Our experience didn't get off to a great start. A not so warm welcome, made to feel more like a burden that we had a double pram and waitress was quite salty. No explanation of the menu or tea for what was our first experience at Yugen. Tea was tasty, but was fully decanted from the tea pot into a glass beacon which made the tea go cold very quickly. Saving grace was the food. Easily the best afternoon tea/high tea in Melbourne. Could not fault anything food wise. Sensational! The labour and effort going into each element is unrivalled, therefore price point is justified.
The decor is stunning, the tea is lovely, and the sweets are delicious. I highly recommend it to friends and will definitely visit again! It was an all-around spectacular experience. The waitress was incredibly patient and helpful with the menu too.
The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. I really appreciated the staff's attention to our dietary restrictions; they took care of everything we needed.
