I've been visiting Al Chef since it opened, and the staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. The owner, a military veteran who served as a translator for the U.S. military, offers discounts for service members. His son often works as the cashier, and a charming detail is that the owner is named after a Christian saint. They serve halal food and offer dates on the menu. They also have chips that they sometimes give to children for free. I have always enjoyed my time here.
