2*? Next time I return I expect this perfection of fine dining to have garnered a third star.I travel in France as a native for work and to visit all my french friends so I've been to a large amount of touted restaurants from Paris to Michel Bras in the middle of nowhere near Laguiole. I have passed a number of weeks as a native and then taking time for resting and exploring. First I will say that speaking French usually gives me an advantage when it comes to most restaurants in the way we are seated and treated. That is France. When it comes to this restaurant, everyone is treated with the upmost perfection of service and a warm feeling of sensing that you are truly 'welcome'. The staff is...

My husband and I had reservations to visit this restaurant while in Chamonix and were excited to try out the Michelin starred restaurant. We walked from our hotel and followed the signs toward the restaurant, at which point we saw an employee, who took us inside to the maitre d' and told them our names. I was a bit surprised at the decor, because it was quite rustic, but we were led to our table. A moment later, another employee came to our table and asked if we were supposed to be at the Michelin restaurant, we replied yes, and they apologized and led us out to the other restaurant! A completely different place with cool, modern decor and a very upscale feel. What a difference! The meal was...

We are pleased that our busy schedule during a short stay in Chamonix allowed us to squeeze in a lunch at this centennial establishment, something we have wanted to do for months. An oasis of peace not far from centre town. The dishes are innovative (e.g. the first course of the foie gras served two ways, and many of the starters) and excellent. You may have had better pigeons or sweetbreads served at other multi-Michelin-star restaurants, but the impeccable service here made the whole experience truly delightful. Our two-year old baby had his most refined pasta dish ever, and participated fully in the tasting of the dessert chariots! It should have at least 2 stars, and is pretty good value... Disappointing. They seem to have stopped investing in the meal and experience, perhaps because they already have two Michelin stars. Ambiance is a bit tired, typical Cham-chalet kitsch. Service average, uninspired description of food provided, plates left to linger on table. Food itself really didn't offer excitement, surprise or creativity. They served a massive portion of veal, just to give diners the sense that they had a full meal. Wine prices are nothing short of outrageous.

We have been to Albert 1er at least 20 times in the last 10 years. It never disappoints. The food is obviously outstanding. Very refined. Some could say "relatively classic french gastronomy". My impression is that the level of creativity has been increasing over the years. It is THE place to go in Chamonix for a great lunch or dinner. Prices at lunch are rather reasonable. The sommelier always has great recommendations. Service is perfect.
