We have eaten at Au Boeuf Rouge many times in the past 35 years but our last visit until today was over ten years ago. Whenever we came to visit my in-laws in Germany, we would make the pilgrimage to this special place and always for Sunday lunch. We traveled up from Colmar today and were worried that we were expecting too much. Rest assured we weren't. We have eaten at many restaurants on our current trip, including both a Michelin 2 star and 1 star. Au Boeuf Rouge and the family Golla delivered our best dining experience by far on this trip, and one of our best ever. If you are looking for a place where they practically measure the distance between your knife and spoon, or whisk your glass or dish away the instant you are finished with it, this isn't it. That is the only reason we can think of for them not getting a star beacause the rest of the experience is sensational. The ambience, beautifully redone interior, friendly and attentive service, as well as the design and presentation of the dishes, the quality, and above all the taste certainly merit a star. My wife and I agree that the current Au Boeuf Rouge not only met our extremely high expectations, but surpassed them. We both chose the 4 course €73 menu and the finale of our meal included cheeses from an overwhelming selection on their cheese cart for me and phenonomal desserts from the dessert cart for my wife. Of course we shared! If you are planning to visit the Alsace, do yourself a favor and dine here. We most strongly recommend the Sunday lunch if you are able. We are very confident you will be happy you did.
