My husband requested that I take him, our children and my in-laws here for Father’s Day. So we made a reservation. On the way he raved to his parents about how good the food is and how much they’ll love the cod. We were seated relatively fast though 15 minutes past our reservation time. We all ordered the fried cod platter. Then the children had kids meals. Then we proceeded to wait over a full hour for our food. When it was eventually brought out two cod platters were cold. One “4 piece cod platter” had 3 pieces. One kid’s meal was cold. We let the server know. She said she’d have it remade and took the cold meals away. My wife and I visited our daughter and her family in Rockford, and before driving three hours back home, we decided to grab a bite to eat. My wife ordered the Rueben, but it was missing the 1000 Island dressing and only had a few shreds of sauerkraut. I went with the Backyard burger, but one of the sides was burnt to a crisp. The fries and onion rings were okay, but nothing special. Luckily, my grandson's pizza was delicious. The waitress was attentive and did a good job, but overall, we won't be returning to this restaurant. We're looking forward to trying out a different place next month when we visit again.

Had the fish fry Friday, fish fry has really gotten pricey these days (haven't done it in many years) but besides the price the food wasn't to bad, there pieces of fish with fries and coleslaw is how you start and all you got to do is ask for more. Took a friend up there and cost us around $40 for 2 people getting the fish and drinks. I didn't ask our servers name can only hope the receipt is accurate. If so Sally was amazing. Regularly checked on us, kept drinks and food filled till we said stop. Very polite and on top of her game!

I don't get here often but when I do, I usually have an enjoyable experience. Today was not too much different, except for the fact that I failed to realize that the chicken tenders seem to be a pre-made frozen product and were lackluster. If freshly made tenders were paired with the outstanding ribs in the ribs and chicken tenders basket like I had, it would be an outstanding product. Therefore, it was just a ho-hum dish in my eyes. Service was wonderful steak was ridiculously thin! I ordered a steak with the butterfly shrimp combo. It was not even a steak as you could read the newspaper through it! Belonged on a sandwich not served as main course. I did complain via the waitress who told me she did relay to manager who did not contact us prior to leaving. The rest of my food tasted great thus the 3 stars . It should b noted that I have had wonderful steaks there before just very disappointed today!

Drove 45 minutes to dine. Waited 15 minutes and received 0 service. Got up to get the hostess and stated someone be with you soon. Another 10 minutes goes by so we request a manager. We got up and left . The manager did offer to take our order tho lol . Um no thanks poor experience stay away.Also stopped another gentleman and told him we had no service he also didn’t care. Not worth the drive

Had been awhile since I had been to the Loves Park location. Had been going to Roscoe, but the quality went down hill there. Was very happy that Loves Park location still has fantastic fish fry. Thought the fish was different from the last time I was there, so was a little worried. Each piece was packed with white flacky fish. I found it to be even better.

We had a fantastic dinner! Our server, Jordan, was absolutely outstanding. He was attentive, professional, and polite. We dine out frequently, and Jordan is one of the best servers we have encountered in this day and age. We feel very fortunate to have had him at Backyard. We will definitely be returning. I've never had a bad experience here. The food is great. The service is great. The restaurant is always busy when I go there which is a great sign. I really like the burger menu selection and can say the Backyard Burger is one of my favorites. The chicken wings Schmitty Style is a great choice as well.
