Whilst staying at a local bed and breakfast we decided we wanted to try some typical French cuisine and asked for a recommendation. Le Bistrot de Flandre was mentioned and so we booked a table..on arrival we were greeted and shown to a table. There was already plenty of locals in there which gave the place nice buzz which we were pleased about. I ordered the entrecote steak medium and dauphinoise potatoes which came in a separate bowl..steak was with a peppercorn sauce...to be honest the meal tasted fine but was a little disappointed with the steak quality as parts of it were very grizzly which was a shame..the wines we had were nice and the fresh bread was also nice..was thinking about dessert but the waiters were so busy - literally ran off their feet with only a couple of them seeming to try and cover the whole restaurant and I was tired with travelling so we just paid and called it a night..a popular place..wish I would have had one of the seafood choices instead though!

We were heading back to Calais from Epernay and it was gone 2 o'clock but were greeted and seated straight away, a very nice room with white table cloths and napkins, I really wanted a alas after the gastronomic meal the night before but didn't see salad as an option on the menu, so I asked for the smoked salmon starter as a main course with a side salad which was no problem, local rustic bread was brought to the table with flavoured butter and garlic soft cheese sauce which was fabulous! Glass of Chablis which was very reasonably priced, the meal came which was an extremely big portion of smoked salmon and a large bowl of salad which was perfect, I would recommend anyone to eat here, very welcoming and friendly staff and ate exactly what we wanted even though it wasn't listed as an option on the menu!

Phillipe made sure we felt welcome, though our rusty French had worse than evaporated after six weeks in Spain. The few French words and phrases we could normally use had all been replaced. Philippe to the rescue! We had Kir Royales, delicious bread with a pate, Duck magret avec mushrooms from the lovely woods south of the city, and giant beers of Belgian brewing, at Phillipe's suggestion. Great meal. Many laughs. 80 euro. No English menu. Respect.

This place was recommended by our hosts in a B&B. The place was busy and full of locals so a good sign. Service was good but only two of them for a full restaurant was not enough. Good selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle. Had the steak and went for a medium as didnt know how it would turn up. A bit grissly to be fair but cooked medium well. All in all it was nice but not good enough to make me want to return.
