For my side, I had the option of a baked potato, French fries, or homemade potato chips. During my last visit in June, the potato chips had a burnt flavor, so I opted for a loaded baked potato with sour cream and butter instead. What I received was the smallest baked potato I have ever been served in a restaurant with a steak. It was wrapped in foil, clearly microwaved, and the hard spots were indicative of that. The Black Sheep is an essential stop when you're in Alpena. The ambiance really captures the essence of an English pub, and Kris along with her staff are both friendly and professional. There's a great variety of beers, many of which are available on tap. My top pick from the menu is the homemade Scotch egg, a delightful taste of the UK right in downtown Alpena, but everything I tried was delicious. The owner and bartender were incredibly friendly! We had a wonderful conversation with them. We arrived just before the kitchen was about to close, and they kindly kept it open for us. The burgers and fries were absolutely delicious, and they offered a wide variety of beers!
