If you're in the Sheffield MA area, then you're definitely going to want to step in this place. Set on the first floor of an antique home, it has all the charm of a New England cottage as you'd expect: solid plank floors, substantial fire place, old doors, and seating by the windows. Ah, but let's talk about the food. My wife and I were hungry after puttering around town a bit and wanted something substantial yet casual. This place easily fit the bill. Everything behind the deli counter is homemade. I had the chicken, bacon, mozzarella, tomato panini special. The mac and cheese was just made so I couldn't turn that down (and it didn't disappoint; my wife who never likes mac and cheese outside of her own actually approved). The elbows had a hint of al dente perfection while the white cheese was creamy with just that right amount of saltiness. Ahh! My sandwich was also a delight. Pressed to perfection, the mozz gently spilled over the chicken with bacon shreds adding that touch of salt and the beefsteak tomato tied it all together. All of this excitement was housed in a requested deli roll (not the suggested ciabatta), with handsome and inviting panini sear marks. Excellent. And I sure hope you'll leave room for dessert. We asked what was fresh and the carrot cake was on the top of the list. Topped with a thin layer of cream cheese icing, the dark and moist carrot cake was sublime. Blue Door got this one right too, perfectly balancing the sweetness of the icing and the fruitiness of the cake. I almost asked for another slice to go, but figured it was best to leave wanting, especially for another reason to return to Sheffield. All of this was topped by excellent service provided by an attentive and polite young man who ran the counter, crafted our sandwiches, and kept the shop tidy. Great job Blue Door!
