I decided to try this place after seeing a recommendation. While I always enjoy exploring new burger spots, I have to say that my favorite burger is still In-N-Out, especially when factoring in cost. I arrived early and was the first customer of the day, which gave me the opportunity to observe how the restaurant prepared their food. One thing that stood out to me—but not in a good way—was how they handled the grilled onions and bacon. Rather than cooking fresh ingredients in the morning, they simply reheated leftover onions and bacon from the previous day and used them for my burger. That was disappointing because I expected everything to be freshly prepared, especially for the first order...
The burgers at this restaurant are decent, but I've had better at various other places. It doesn't quite measure up to burger joints like In-N-Out or Islands. They do offer some unique burger options, but overall, it's not outstanding in my opinion. I still dine here because the food is tasty and there aren't many burger options near the campus. The prices are reasonable, though some items can be a bit pricy. The service is reliable. Overall, I would give it an average rating because there are many other burger restaurants that are better.
It was my first time yesterday and it will be my last time. first it was freezing inside. then i saw the 2 guys making the food Not wearing gloves, they were touching the food, lettuce, tomatoes and making sandwiches with the same hands touching the register and the grill. it was disgusting. I can't speak to Bongo Burger's main burgers since I don't eat them, but I can say that their chicken dishes are fantastic! I relied heavily on Bongo Burger's chicken meals during my last two years in Berkeley and have always been impressed.
