"I have been twice and both times seriously unimpressed with the food. A lot of the food comes out of packets (potatoe fries/chips and calamari) not to mention the sauces that are used. I have friends that rave about this restaurant which I cannot understand."

This was my second visit to Buffet de la Gare in Gryon. The first visit was in 2009 the last time we visited the area and we all remembered the delicious fondue and amazing views! I was a little apprehensive to return with my 2 year old daughter (who doesn't always behave!) but I'm so glad that we did and we all had a lovely meal. There are a handful of parking spaces outside the front of the restaurant for customers and it is also easily accessible on the train as it is at Gryon train station (as the name suggests!).The restaurant has an outdoor terrace where you can sit with spectacular views. The staff were welcoming and friendly and humoured our attempts to speak French whilst speaking to us in English when we struggled to understand.2 of our party ordered a large burger each and these looked yummy and were served with chunky potatoes wedges. My husband and I ordered traditional cheese fondue to share with our daughter (plus chips) and it was just as good as we remembered. For the 4 adults and one child (plus 2 vin chaud and 2 beers) our meal came to about 140 swiss francs which although expensive to us with the GBP exchange rate, it's a pretty standard price for a decent meal in the area. The board outside suggests they do also do a lighter bites lunch offering with croque monsieurs etc for about 6 CHF.Will definitely be back!

What you get is what is written on the label. Only a lot more. It's the Station Cafe, right next to the spectacular funicular up from Bex. But it's not really a Cafe. It's a very decent Brasserie. Short menu, but it rotates every day, so you can happily eat there several tinmes a week and still be pleasantly surprised. The fare is solid, hearty, Vaudois mountain grub, the wine great VFM Bex/Upper Rhone local offerings. A family-run establishment, by Corinne and Alberto, and a very friendly welcome in both peak seasons (skiiing, then summer trekking) and out ( Spring and Autumn.) I am a serial vistor, and when in Gryon-Villars happy to be there several nights a week.

We have eaten here twice in Previous years and found it a good meal and not too pricey for Switzerland! Last week we returned and we were early so no problem with a table. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. I had the escalope of veal which came with chips. The veal was not very good as it had been made way too thin so the coating was over powering. We also had escargot and prawns all of which were tasty and fresh.

This nice and quiet spot is located at the train station in Gryon, Switzerland (pop. 1200ish.) Wonderful wine. We chose to do the hot cooking oil fondue with an assortment of meats. PERFECT. Topped it off with some great conversation, immaculate dessert and a coffee. The daytime views are all-time.
