Usually full five is rare, just always room to improve. Make a reservation this is a busy spot. We waited a uncomfortable lobgvtome at door to be greated and sat. If I was not meeting my daughter and friend I would have likely left it...was that long. Once seated the device was great. Chris was friendly and informative. Seemed like he sincerely liked doing what he does. We started out with a sharing of dishes. Charcuterie, crawdads, fried Brussels. All was excellent with great presentation. Lots on the charcuterie and great portion on the crawfish. Chris checked in on us several times and kept the cocktails filled. After so much app we shared a burger and a strip. We were a group of people on a Saturday night without a reservation. Everything was booked solid everywhere, inside capacity is not to because of covid, and we had tried a restaurant called The lark. Their waiter directed us to Capers saying that...the food was good. He was right! We were lucky to find a table. The place is very cute. You have tables, high stools, banquettes and outside seating. Two of my friends had burgers, the other has shrimp tacos and I had the ribs. Was it the best meal I have ever eaten? No, but everything was good. The waitress was very professional and courteous and we had a very good bottle of Chianti at around I would go back anytime I find myself in Belleville!
Not having been there for a few years, we thought we would give Capers a try again. Although I can say it was ok, for the price we paid it was not great. The squash in the spinach salad was bitter and the boar bolognese...was ordinary on the pasta. The burgers were ok but lacking anything special. The fries were good. The service was very good but I never understand why in an empty restaurant they sat us next to a noisy table of eight. It was difficult to have a conversation with our friends. I should have asked to move but didn’t. Of course they turned the music up halfway through our meal which made it even more difficult to converse. I probably won’t go back again.
Was told this is one of the better places to dine in Belleville, so I gave it a try. First problem was sliding doors wide open on a cool night, went back to car for a hoodie. The food, ordered the cod fish. The cod...was perfect. Cous cous was soft and almost mushy. I guess they keep it warm all night in a steam table. Last is the red pepper coulis. This sauce had the distinct flavour like acid. Terrible bitter flavour that I dought the chef ever sampled before serving it to customers. Even the waiter didn't care when I told him my opinion. Been there, tried it, not coming back.
This lovely casual dining experience was a big hit with me and my friend. I wanted to treat her to a nice dinner for New Years Eve. She is from out of town and I have a hard time finding just the right place in...Belleville. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, wine, starter and entree, sadly no room for dessert, maybe next time. Our server was excellent, I think his name is Chris. My only advice to him is to relax. I will be back for sure and recommend Capers.
One of our favorite spots. Kristyn does a awsome job. Apps, meal, drinks all perfect timing. The taco apps and flatbread pulled pork were amazing. The entertainment cancelled to night but we still had fun. Moved up to bar after dinner for a round of...monte Cristo coffees. Yum! The brussel sprout salad is a must try. Steaks cooked perfect. Hats off to kitchen.
