I needed a lunch place in the rockaways and came from claudette over cuisine. I could not just be some place because I was with this girl I want to impress! She is very special and I really wanted to grab her. I digress. Anyway, this place had so many delicious herbal options that it was hard to decide what to get. we decided to go out with some items from the special board: grilled cheese pita, mozzarella sticks, and a cunning tofu sabich. all were excellent and simply went beyond and beyond with regard to taste and composition. oh and many dessert options! we got a carrot cake that was so good, but it was too crowded the same day. This place used to be amazing- worth a trip to Rockaway from anywhere in the city. But now, every time I go in there are less and less vegan options. The vegan bakery options have dwindled down to two pretty unappetizing choices, and they first got rid of the seitan, then the tofu, then the vegan grilled cheese, and the last straw was them getting rid of the cauliflower ‘wings’. They basically are just another ‘build a bowl’ place now, with the only vegan protein being falafel. I’m sad to say I won’t be back unless they change their menu again. Super sad- this place has been a nearly weekly stop for me for years.
It seems that the establishment is in a fortunate position, but it's disappointing that they don't consider the many customers who would appreciate a straw for their smoothies. If sustainability is a priority, there are plenty of biodegradable, compostable, and even 100% natural straw options available. It's quite ridiculous for a smoothie place to not offer straws. As for the smoothie itself, it was underwhelming—I'd rate it a two out of five. This review reflects an update from a previous rating on May 31, 2022.
might as well say no we're ableist! must be nice to not have a care in the world for the many people who need a straw to drink a smoothie! hate this pseudo woke energy there are many biodegradable, compostable, and even 100 percent natural straw options available if you want to be sustainable. Claudette’s is my go-to local spot. They have so many vegan options! Their hummus plate is my usual pick but I do change it up and get a veggie burger, cauliflower rice bowl, vegan grilled cheese or whatever vegan special is on the menu! Their vegan desserts are also amazing. The cookies are soft and chewy. They always have different cupcake flavors to choose from and so far none have disappointed.
This quaint little spot is fantastic! They offer a wide range of vegan options, including my personal favorite, tofu scramble, as well as falafel, mozzarella sticks, shakes, smoothies, and more! The atmosphere is wonderful, and the food is exceptional. If you're in the area, definitely make sure to check this place out!

The wings, bowls, and juices are all fantastic! However, I was disappointed that everything was served in single-use containers, which felt unnecessary in 2022. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
