I am a frequent customer at Daneli’s Kosher Deli. With myself originating from Eastern Europe, there is nothing like being served hearty, comfort food that reminds me of back home where my folks originate from. Daneli’s Kosher Deli is located in the inner city suburb of Balaclava, a 5-minute walk from Balaclava railway station, and situated on Yarra Tram routes 3, 3a and 16. The service is old-fashioned, just the way I like it. While the food may take a bit longer to be served than the average fast food restaurant, it should be noted that the food is served with lots of love. The deli counter is filled with a variety of salads, dips, sushi, sausage rolls, fried chicken, beef patties, pastram...
I went to Daneli's Kosher Deli hoping it would be similar to Katz deli in New York. Well the sandwhich wasn’t quite as big, and looks like they serve the pastrami in round rolls, unless you ask for rye bread. It did taste quite delicious, but was on the expensive side and not sure if it was worth $18.95. The seating area is nothing flash and similar to a regular take away or fish and chip shop, but the deli is spotless and all the food looked tasty.
I dunno, maybe this is more a reflection on me than on this place but after paying $20 for a Reuben which is essentially a sandwich, I was expecting something phenomenal. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, and even if it cost half that price I'm not sure I'd be running back for another one to be honest.Took a while for our order to be ready but the staff were nice and the place looked clean.
