Philly is filled to the brim with standout BYOB restaurants that feature eclectic and elevated menus, but in the suburbs the options are few and far between thus making them harder to find. But it was my dad who impressed me (I taught him well! by finding this crown jewel of a BYOB in an unassuming Havertown neighborhood, and it was Edgewood that managed to deliver an impressive dinner for my mom's birthday. First off, I don't usually do reviews, I mean to but I just never get around to it. However, Kelly, our waitress of the evening deserves some praise. This was my first time at this hidden gem. When I arrived, I was seated immediately with my party. Bonus for points for not having to wait for the entire party to arrive to be seated. The waitress checked on me and the other guest occasionally until the whole party arrived. Once everyone was there, she ran down the list of specials and I must say, her explanation had me blushing. Chef Ferro didn't know it but we seriously put him to the test one night last month. Not one, not two, but three Yelp Elites and serious foodies showed up to put him to the test. Although not a Yelper the lovely wife was along for the ride and she has a very discerning palate. SO WHAT WAS THE TEST? While visiting my parents, we decided to try a local BYOB restaurant in their area. We started with mussels, which everyone said were delicious, although they were on the small side. The sauce was very flavorful. The bread was okay, but could have been improved with a few minutes in the oven. The house-made butter was unsalted and mixed with honey, which was a nice touch. My husband and I went out for our Anniversary dinner last night. This place has an interesting ambiance- dark and reddish but fine for a date night. Casual and somewhat cozy. Appetizers- filet egg rolls were good- cheesy, crunchy. Crab asparagus soup was creamy and tasty. Overall though, both apps were very salty. I couldnt even eat the croutons on top of the soup- tasted like a salt lick. We opted to skip salads. Entrees: my husband had a bacon wrapped filet and I had the shrimp and catfish special. I really enjoyed this place. BYOBs are sometimes hard to come by in the suburbs, so I was eager to try this place out. It's a very intimate and romantic environment. Low lighting and kind of quiet. The service was great, our server was super attentive and helpful. Quick with refills and details about each dish on the menu. I got the muscles and I can't even express how good they are! They were super clean, no grit, and the sauce is perfect for dipping some bread in after. Clean seafood is a must for me, so that made a big impression. The prices were reasonable as well. Apologies for the late review Edgewood. Visit: Thursday Dec 29, 2016 Located in a tiny strip of pre-war storefronts in a Havertown neighborhood of the same era is this BYO gem. Fellow Yelper Regina M and I along with our men brought a bottle of wine and hungry bellies to Edgewood and we were thrilled from the start. We had an awesome server and I am sad to have forgotten her name. She was training another server that evening and that didn't affect our service in any way. It was 5 stars. And the trainee was good too. All 4 of us dined on 5 star entrees and said we will definitely be back.

We had a birthday celebration with a group of 14 at this restaurant. The food was exceptional and the servers were excellent. We appreciated the BYOB policy. The restaurant is on the smaller side, so the long tables for larger parties felt a bit cramped with limited space to move around. We enjoyed some delicious appetizers, particularly the coconut shrimp, and tasty main dishes that included a large steak, veal dish, grouper special, and more. The beet salad was also very good. I am extremely saddened to learn that this restaurant served its last delicious meal on September 13, 2020. I have made countless happy memories dining here with friends and family throughout the years.
