The Fairy Bird has been going good and strong since the early 90's (yes that's last century) when my husband and I moved into our first house in Bon Beach. We are now in Edithvale and I have to say a favorite takeaway option is to get off the train at Edithvale on a Friday evening and head over to order.The lemon chicken is flavoursome and plentiful - two huge chicken breasts. The beef and black bean sauce is another favorite, as is the singapore noodles. These three items combined with the large special fried rice, is enough to feed a family of four (my family has two sons, one 23 and the other 17).
not the best Chinese I've ever had. Overall it was mildly disappointing. Everything was okay and it was fresh and cooked to order. I like Chinese food that still has taste and texture. The combination seafood had nice vegetables and plenty of good seafood, fish, scallops and prawns but the crab stick pieces detracted from it. I personally do not think the use of crab sticks enhances any dish. They are soggy. The fried rice was pretty boring. While it was a good size serving there was little in it to give it flavour. Perhaps I made bad choices of dishes?
Maybe it's just me, but when the place is empty, and they have two orders for take away in, I don't expect a 40 minute wait for fried rice and noodles. When the order did arrive in was unremarkable. Dining in would be quite 'authentic' as you would expect to find in a back street of say Bangkok, its not The Ritz. With seating for about 8 people it's primarily a take away. Parking isn't that easy. If you really, really feel like Chinese, then it'll tide you over. Other than that it was bland and as middle of the road as it gets. Yawn.
We were looking around for Chinese and thought of the Fairy Bird. Ordered Cantonese Steak, Special Fried Rice and Chicken and Cashews. Pretty much the Rice was very nice but threw out the rest. The steak was rubbery and the chicken was gelatinous. Very disappointing. Not so Cheers.

We have been ordering take away Chinese from Fairy Bird for many years and it has never let us down. The Lemon Chicken can't be beaten and is the best in Melbourne if not the world!Very surprised there aren't more reviews on here as the place is always busy on Friday, Saturday
The service is great and food is just the best Chinese around love it. We are a large family and all order very different dishes very happy, they even do meals for the vegetarian in our family, including a vegetarian fried rice. Awesome

Not great. If you're desperate in Chinese, I'd eat pizza instead. Now and then I think things could have changed, but like a bad...

The food here is delicious and fresh. We loved it and will be going back again. We had a variety of dishes and loved them all.
I absolutely loved the quality of the food and the fact that the majority of the food is homemade. Loved it!
