We arrived around 3 PM, so the restaurant was pretty slow. We were promptly seated by a friendly and efficient server. Given the menu options, it's clear this place isn't focused on healthy eating (after all, it's called Fatz), so we decided to indulge and ordered some lunch items that showcased their specialties. The pork chop was freshly cooked and delicious, and the grits were among the best I've ever had. Their sweet potato casserole would make for a fantastic dessert. The portion of popcorn shrimp was quite generous for a lunch serving and they were very enjoyable. The fries weren't as crispy as I prefer, but they were still well-prepared. It had a consistency reminiscent of donuts, and the honey butter made it even more delightful. The hostess staff were exceptional—polite, customer-focused, friendly, and efficient. We were traveling through SC and had to stop for the night in orangeburg. Kimberly at the front desk suggested Fatz to us because of the full bar and the Calabash chicken. Although the bar was good and the food was great the staff was outstanding!! They were short staffed and we had to wait for a table for a long time for a Thursday. But once we sat down our waitress made the wait worth it! Actually all the waitstaff were so helpful and friendly. We had the Calabash salad, chicken tender melt, chicken fried steak and pork chops. We all loved our meals!! Loved sampling a local restaurant. We will definitely stop again on our return trip. Great stop.
I had a lovely, laid-back meal at South Frit. The baked green tomatoes served with grits were the standout dish for me! The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the mashed potatoes and green beans tasted just like home-cooked meals from mom. It wasn’t very busy, but the food came out at a relaxed pace. Everything was delicious and well worth the price, especially if you’re not in a rush. I would definitely return next time I’m in the area!
The food was good, and the waitress initially provided great service. However, once our food arrived, we faced an issue with the utensils – we couldn't get any. We asked three times as our food continued to cool down. Finally, I had to get up and look for our waitress. She then mentioned that someone else would bring us the cutlery. Overall, I’d rate the food a 5, but the lack of follow-up for the utensils would only earn a 2.
I would definitely return to this place if we find ourselves in South Carolina again. The portions were generous, everything tasted fantastic, and those mini rolls with honey butter were just perfect. The service was a bit slow, but I suspect they were short-staffed like many places these days, so I don’t hold that against them. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive with the drink refills.

On the way north. The staff was very friendly and the restaurant was clean. I ordered a burger and my food companion ordered grilled chicken. The food was hot. My burger was good, but average, and his chicken was dry and a little crispy. From the long line coming as we went, others think that the food is worth waiting for.
The restaurant was extremely dirty, and the food was very unpleasant. We didn’t even receive what we ordered. 1 star.
