Not having visited in a while, we 'd forgotten just how great this joint was. Herman, the original owner, sold his business way back in 1974; since then, the Shane family has maintained the name, traditions, and legendary comfort food. The place is nothing fancy but the wide ranging menu extends far beyond standard hot dog burger gyros fare. Herm 's is celebrated for their decadent Cardiac Sandwich (pastrami, fried salami pepper jack cheese). Other options include a breaded veal sandwich, rigatoni, fish tacos, eggplant parmesan, pizza puffs, chicken gyros, etc., etc. There are salads and other vegetarian items, and they serve beer, too. I had a great time at this restaurant! We decided to come here after finding out that another place down the street, which claimed to be open, actually wasn't. The food was quite delicious. I ordered the corn-rib sandwich with pickles, and my daughter had a club sandwich. They offered combo options that included fries and coleslaw, but I wasn't very hungry, so we just had bottled water. The menu had many enticing choices, and I would love to return to try something else. Even though we live nearly 50 minutes away, the drive is definitely worth it for a good meal!

Herms is truly a palace for the taste buds. But Scott, the man at the counter, truly makes you feel like you are part of the family, just another seat at his table. This place is truly a MUST STOP for anyone visiting the Skokie area, or the greater Chicago area for that matter!! Herm's Hot Dog Palace epitomizes Chicago both through their absolutely incredible food (Chicago Hot Dogs here are the best!!! but the absolutely amazing atmosphere that Scott and his family running this Palace create for every customer that walks through the door!

I absolutely love this place! It always has a warm and friendly atmosphere, along with great service. The food is fantastic, and whenever I'm out of town, this is the first place I want to visit. Herm’s Palace consistently offers two homemade soups daily, and I always make sure to grab one to go because I enjoy savoring it later. Okay, so this place has good reviews, and after speaking with one of the staff members, we were excited to eat here. I ordered a steak sandwich for my partner, while my son and I both had cheeseburgers. Unfortunately, I wasn't a fan of the burgers; the bun was nice, but the patties tasted a bit too much like frozen ones. As for the steak sandwich, it was tough. I'm sorry to say, but this dining experience didn't work for us.

Love this place! Food is good, owners are fantastic. I was so sad to move out of the neighborhood, but always stop there when in the area. I am a big fan of the beef's, steak sandwich on garlic bread and fries are always delicious. But with that being said, I have liked everything I have tried there.
