We decided to spend the night outside of the bigger cities in England and chose the Horse Jockey at Wessington. It was easy to find and there was no problem with parking. We were greeted at the bar and shown to our room by one of the employees who dropped everything he was doing. (Great service). The room was spacious with 2 twin beds. Clean and well appointed. The bathroom, however, had a bad musty smell we think due to the towel heater being on. We closed off the heat and it helped, but the smell lingered through the night and into the next morning. A cold wet Sunday teatime found us searching for a cosy pub with food, having been here before but a while ago we thought we would try it. Not cosy and not warm however they could seat us quickly Husband had a burger with chips and onion ring ! Yes ring which he said was cold but the burger was ok My pork roast came swimming in gravy which was a shock normally you get to add your own, I think it had been stood platted for a while hence the gravy to moisten it, not a great roast I wouldn’t order again in fact we won’t visit again. Came in for a couple drinks and some chips to share pick. Two staff were on the bar, the general manager Conor and another woman. What an amazing place but completely let down by its staff. No smiles, ignored us when making conversation at the bar when ordering drinks and had change thrown into my hand. Also noticed this was the same when other people were ordering. What a shame. My door matt at home has more personality and at least says welcome. They let this pub down after someone has done such a good job of the decor, design food. Won’t come again,
My experience at the Horse and Jockey Wessington was disappointing. We visited in the late afternoon for a meal, but it was absolutely awful. The burgers were extremely salty and we couldn't finish them, so we had to send them back. We were told that they were store bought, but they did give us a 25% discount on the bill. Even the chips were too salty. The pub was cold with no heating or log burner in use, which made it uncomfortable. This experience has made us hesitant to return anytime soon.

Had an impromptu stop here on our way home and so glad we did! It’s a really lovely pub, nice atmosphere and friendly helpful staff. Really reasonably priced for the quality of the food served and the portion sizes. I had steak and ale pie and chips and it was absolutely delicious. My husband had steak and chips and he said his was really good too. My son had chicken fillets and chips from the kids menu and he was happy too. Very glad we found them! Would highly recommend!
I am a frequent customer at this restaurant and generally have a good experience. However, during my last visit, I ordered the fish and chips and was disappointed to find that the batter was not fully cooked inside. It is important for the kitchen staff to ensure that dishes are prepared correctly. Consistency in quality is key to keeping customers coming back. I hope they can improve in this aspect.
Really tasty Sunday lunch, will definitely be back, only slight disappointment was that the menu states turkey with pigs in blankets but we only got the one My husband had the butchers block and only one small slice of each meat.
Beautiful family-friendly restaurant. Perfect for a quick stop on the way to Matlock! The staff provided excellent service when I discussed my dietary restrictions. The food was of high quality and the atmosphere was pleasant.

The service, food and drink is excellent, the staff are friendly and everything comes really quick even though when they are busy. We hadn't booked but they fit us in straight away.
Food was really nice really enjoyed it staff were very nice to us and were very quick with service would definitely go again
