We had just arrived in Zermatt quite late at night and we were very hungry, so we thought it best to go to the restaurant in our hotel. However, that was a big mistake... we ordered a special Rib roast of meet (to Share) which came with a vegetable and a choice of fries or potatoes. Our waiter told us that our meal would take about an hour, so we ordered a ravioli appetiser to fill in the time. A long hour later our appetisers arrived. They were a huge disappointment especially after the long wait. The pasta was very under cooked and the appetisers were cold. Das Hotel befindet sich zu Fuss 10min vom Bahnhof der Matterhorn Gotthardbahn und von der Gornergrat Bahn entfernt. Auch lässt sich das Zentrum sehr einfach zu Fuss erreichen. Wir waren im dritten Stock einquartiert und hatten eine schöne Aussicht auf das Matterhorn (siehe Bild). Am Morgen gibt es ein reichhaltiges Frühstückbuffet an dem auch frisch zubereitetes Müsli oder Creppes nicht fehlen. Das Abendessen war jedesmal sehr gut und ein drei Gänge Menü für 65. ist absolut angebracht. Das Personal im Hotel ist höflich und zuvorkommend. We didn’t realise we parachuted into a dinner service for a tour group when we arrived slightly late for our reservation. Nonetheless the manager was cool and prompt and brought us to our table amidst the chaos. He was able to bring us the wine Rubato and got our orders in pretty quick for the hungry duo. Due to Low season, menu isn’t complete but the cuts and cheese plate is still delicious and the soups are freshly prepared. My beef consommé is brilliant. The mains of entrecôte and zanderfillet are perfectly cooked and the peace and gentle music that echoed the dining hall after the group left were exactly the reasons I had wanted to come here for a nice dinner. we stayed in this hotel 5-7min walk from the Zermatt Train station. As we traveled during the Corona Pandemic, amidst that we didn’t feel it was a big hindrance. We would recommend to take the a la cart service compared to halve-pension as the food in the halve-pension was so so... The room was in close proximity to the street and the train-tracks but we didn’t hear the street much. Overall the location is good, the room size okay and the balcony had a view of the Matterhorn which was nice. All additional safety and sanitation Covid-19 measures were at a top in at this hotel. Im Hotel National fühlt man sich einfach nur wohl. Super Service und ganz tolle Mitarbeiter, vom Empfang über Bar, Frühstück , Restaurant wurden wir stets freundlich bedient. Der Spa Bereich ist auch ein schönes Highlight. Herzlichen dank für den wunderschönen Aufenthalt in Zermatt bei euch an den wir uns gerne zurück erinnern, vor allem Dankeschön an Katrin an der Rezeption die stets für uns da war.
