Reading the other reviews, I can see that we were in the minority in our reaction here. We stopped here for the last night of an 80+-mile randonnée from Le Puy toward Alès. We raced the last 3 km to outrun a thunderstorm on an open logging path down from the medieval castle of Portes. Arriving tired and wet, we found the owner/chef preoccupied with the time of our early departure the next day (forced by a train strike) and unwilling to move our luggage up to our rooms or to find someone to do it (we are both women in our 70s). After our grumpy response to all this, we were served dinner with exaggerated delay, 40 min. before bread, wine or water appeared on the table, long chats at the two other tables while we waited for our next courses. Dinner took 2 hours altogether. Food excellent, at least at dinner.

We stayed here as part of a randonee from Le Puy to Aigues Mortes and dined at the restaruant for dinner and breakfast. We were thoroughly entertained by Stephane and his waiter who were very attentive despite the fact that there was a large group of people in the private dining room and there were only 4 of us in the main dining area.As it was close to the D-Day commemorations, the menu had a Normandy theme - a warmed Normandy camambert with apple and pepper, the BEST slow cooked beef and a mouthwatering pineapple "flamingo" dessert (complete with flamingo impersonations from Stephane)We could not fault it. Would go back again any time.

This small hotel is a gem in the hills north of Ales. It was a challenging uphill ride for us cyclists, but well worth the effort. Located in a wooded, scenic area, the our rooms were comfortable, clean and quiet, and the beds were good, We chose a semi-board plan. The dinner and breakfast were both excellent and we thought that the price was reasonable. The owners of the hotel were friendly and very accommodating.
