Tucked away in Rice Village, this restaurant has been delighting the people of Houston with authentic Turkish cuisine for over twenty years. Even as the area has undergone various changes, the restaurant has remained a reliable source of excellent food. Although the exterior may not stand out, the interior has a cozy ambiance that perfectly complements the menu. The walls are adorned with mementos from Turkey, adding to the cultural atmosphere. Firstly, they didn’t offer tea for guests; instead, you had to order it from the menu (can you believe that? I certainly couldn’t!). Secondly, the rice was poorly prepared and not cooked the way it should be. Normally, restaurants ask if you'd like rice, bulgur, or fries as a side, but they didn’t mention this option, so we only learned about it after complaining about the rice.
Additionally, the meat was excessively oily, and the vegetables were far from fresh. To top it all off, the prices were far too high for the quality of service we received. Turkish restaurants are typically the best in Europe, but this one definitely wasn’t up to par!
The service was incredibly friendly and prompt. Our wonderful server took the time to explain the dishes and wines, which helped us choose some delicious appetizers, wines, entrees, and dessert. The food arrived quickly. The eggplant in reduced tomato sauce was delightful, and the grilled meat sampler featured four different types of kabob, all of which were very flavorful. We were also served fresh bread and seasoned olive oil for dipping. We sat on the enclosed patio, and the rain outside created a lovely atmosphere.
Absolutely delicious, juicy, and tender! The halal food is not only tasty but also comes with excellent service. The portion sizes are generous, making it easy to share a plate if you're not super hungry. The food is served in a timely manner as well. No matter what you order, be sure to try the tea and the delectable baklava for dessert—it's definitely worth it!
