On May 16th, we had lunch at Chateau de la Chevre d’Or’s Le Café du Jardin. A reservation is a must in order to access the grounds of this 5-star hotel. It is necessary to preface this review by saying that on May 9th, we had lunch at Hotel Chateau Eza’s restaurant. Both hotels are 5-star and both will provide breathtaking views when you dine at their establishments. And, reservations are recommended for both. It is a given that regardless of which you choose, you should expect to pay for the location and view. That being said, the Le Café du Jardin is a terrace café and has a more limited menu (starter, a few main dishes, including a number of pizzas, and dessert). We were surprised by the limited wine list provided and would have considered having Champagne, but when we saw the prices (willing to pay a little extra, but these prices seemed too high) they seemed far more out of line than many. At Chevre d’Or’s Café, you can expect to pay over €50 for a starter and a main dish (a week earlier at Chateau Eza’s restaurant, we had an amuse bouche and a 3-course lunch for €52; a €62 fixed 4-course lunch was another option). The Café’s staff was good in all ways, but, again, this is a very pricey café when compared to our previous week’s experience. From an overall experience perspective, we’d recommend that you try to reserve a table at lunch at Chateau Eza’s restaurant and have the option of an a la carte menu or the fixed 3 or 4 course menu and have the benefit of a sommelier to help with wine choices if that is something you might need.
