L'Ampelos - Reserva de mesa

A relaxing two day trip to Chateauneuf-du-Papes and Avignon in the summer. A great day walking through the streets, enjoying food, and the churches. Topped off with a quiet early evening at L'Ampelos. This well located (a short walk between Des Halles and Rue de Republique) wine shop and bar had excellent local wines, as well as many from throughout the South of France. The wide array of charcuterie and fromage matched well with delicious Corbeires from Languedoc. The service was personal and knowledgeable and I lingered for a couple of hours enjoying the local clientele and the sunset. I will make sure to spend another evening here next time I am in Provence.

I stumbled across this establishment and thought it an attractive prospect, especially as plates of cheese and meat were also offered at a few outside tables. It turned out to be a great choice, with fine wines offered at reasonable prices, and a very generous assiette of delicacies. I passed a very leisurely evening with good drink and a tasty selection of accompaniaments. Look it out and you will not be disappointed.

We arrived at 5pm. We ordered some expensive wines. We wanted to order tapas which were listed on the menu we received. They told us that we only could be served at 6:30pm. At 6:30pm we tried to order but they told us to leave because they booked the table for somebody else...

Few choices for wine in a glass but most of them were realy good. The cold cuts and cheese platter for 2 was more than enough and at a very reasonable price. The guy who served us was very friendly and helpful.

Have been there many times during our stay in Avignon to have a glas of wine. Nice choice of wines of all price ranges and relaxing atmosphere.
