This location is smaller than average and, like many others, is struggling with staffing issues. The food was good, although our server seemed tired or perhaps unwell. Overall, both the service and food were satisfactory. However, I want to mention that when we left, there was a handwritten notice on the door indicating that the dining room was closed and to please use the drive-thru instead. So if you plan to dine in, it's a good idea to call ahead.
Southern comfort food is what you’ll find at this charming little restaurant in Columbia, SC. I enjoyed a delicious lunch that included fried okra and turkey, accompanied by collard greens and a delightful blackberry cobbler. The service was excellent, and the overall atmosphere had a lovely country vibe. What initially drew me to this spot was its name—Lizard’s Thicket. You just can’t go wrong with that! Despite a busy Sunday afternoon, I found a seat quickly. The service was prompt and friendly, and the food was well-prepared. It's a vibrant place that’s perfect for a quick family dinner, especially if you’re looking for dishes with plenty of vegetables.
The turkey dressing was tasty and served in a generous portion. The squash was also good. However, the cornbread was significantly overcooked. The flounder was enjoyable, but the creamed corn was quite disappointing. On the positive side, the tea was excellent, and the service was prompt and attentive. The food was fantastic, and the service exceeded our expectations. Our waitress, Tasha, really went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed. She even offered to assist my parents, who both use walkers, in navigating the entrance and moving around the tables. Additionally, all the staff were friendly and polite.
The food was delicious, but I would appreciate larger portions. The servings were a bit small for the price. Also, the cornbread muffins could be bigger; the teaspoon-sized ones are quite disappointing, even though they taste great.
We had a wonderful experience at Lizards Thicket! It has been a family tradition for over twenty years. Almost every time we pass through town, we make sure to stop and enjoy a meal at one of their locations.
