We love Max Group restaurants and are pretty regular happy customers. We haven’t been to Oyster bar in awhile and were looking forward to our meals unfortunately we were not impressed in any way. Our chowder was blah, the squash bisque special had interesting flavors. Our staple dish of fried calamari was not good period. The breading was tasteless not crunchy and calamari chewy. I made a mistake of ordering fried oysters and ended up with another tasteless dish. The monkfish special had a strong fish smell and was just ok. In this world of very casual everything, what a treat to have lunch at Max 's. From the first impression, it was nothing but top-of-the-line. White linen covered tables in an intimate setting set the stage perfectly. My husband and I sat at the bar for lunch and what a treat to have Jeff, the bartender, as our waiter. Talk about top-of-the-line .... what a true, first class professional. He was so professional and pleasant, knew the wines beers and the menu. Just what we were looking for. All the restaurants were packed and we would have had to make reservations way in advance. We were visiting. Not familiar. Didn 't want a huge dinner. Just a knosh and a drink. Eating out traveling now is so incredibly difficult. You have to make a commitment before even finding a place. So... we have just about given up when we found Max 's. Perfect. We had martinis, a couple appetizers, it wasn 't annoyingly noisy (but it wasn 't a weekend so I 'm sure it, like so many places, sounds like 3rd grade recess by 8pm on a Friday night). Great atmosphere, good service. Food is better than average food, but not great. Mussels were drenched in heavy sauce and lost all flavor of seafood. Calamari heavy breaded and unseasoned. Seafood pot failed to bring ingredients together and floated around in clam chowder type sauce, Bennet dessert was fried donuts holes injected with an unusual and unfamiliar chicalote sauce. This was our first visit to Max’s Oyster Bar. Parking was convenient right behind the restaurant. We were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated in a comfortable booth. Our service was great and food delicious. The halibut was one of the best I’ve ever had. Though bit pricey, well worth the cost. Definitely give this restaurant a try if you’re looking for fresh, well prepared seafood.

Been here lots of times, live a block away in the center. Sat outside (sidewalk vice road). Very pleasant. Excellent service. The Georges Bank sea scallops over polenta were excellent and so was the Furikake tuna. Desserts were excellent. The nutella mousse cake was outrageously good. Not much more a restaurant could do better. The whole Max group is excellent.

I can’t tell from my meal of chicken as I was not really feeling great. The other three meals were great as usual. My rum was upstanding . This restaurant really knows it’s business and well worth the price with its attention to detail l it’s been a anchor to West Hartfords dining scene for a long time. Never , ever regretted a meal or the atmosphere here.

New management are part of the old managerial staff. Owner sold it to them . Great move as it keeps the old restaurant still going . They have no need to change the venue . It was excellent and the staff is also wonderful. Food is the same consistently excellent food. Reserva una mesa ahora

We had a selection of oysters and fish. Food was really good, although one oyster smelled already a little bit 'fishy ' which they should not do. Excellent choice of different wines, service was ok but not overwhelming. Worth a second try.

Mr. Bob Cook Russia a Top Shelf Restaurant! He’s a Consummate Professional! His staff are Awesome! The food is Superb! The Oysters are Fantastic! I’m addicted to Max’s Oyster at!
