The dishes were on the whole good but disappointed to get a carrot dessert - carrot sorbet & birdseeds. Refreshing but nothing special.The service was great & they confirmed on arrival they could accommodate my husbands 'no fructose' dietary requirement which we'd requested at time of booking weeks prior. Highly disappointing experience on tuesday night. Obviously understaffed but it was the kitchen that really let us down. I had been there with a girlfriend a few weeks before and had a wonderful time so i was excited to take my partner who is a bit of a foodie thinking i had found our next favorite place. We had a nice drink at the bar and were seated. It took about 15-20 minutes to get the waitresses attention. She was clearly under some pressure, her only help a new girl who didn't have a clue. Amazing! Monday night and the restaurant is fully booked, a great sign! And no wonder, the food and service were top class. The front of house team were welcoming and friendly from the first moment we walked in the door from the hostess to the Barman and the wait staff. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and slick. The menu we chose which is only available on a Monday was their "mystery box" which is exactly as it says, a mystery menu designed by the kitchen and changes every Monday. I met my latest wife here. Our first date. We have our anniversary here each year too. To be honest, fine dining is not my thing. Read my review of the Napier Hotel to learn more. However, MJ have the fine dining concept sorted out. If you like that sort of thing then the food, service and overall experience is pretty solid. I go for the nostalgia but if I want to get all gourmet with some out of town fiends I take them here. It's in the middle of Windsor so it it is surrounded by loads of hipster competition. For non-Melbournians, WIndsor is currently ground-zero for hipsteria in Australia. At any rate, Morris Jones is a step up the eliteness chart.

This is fine dining. The food is upscale, as are the service and the prices. But it's really good if your in the mood to spend $125 per person.The three course chef's choice was our selection on our last visit. The Tuna Poke was incredible... served under a smoked cloche and it's a subtle but flavourful treat. The main was beef cheeks - usually not my favourite cut, but they made me a believer. The dessert was a play on chocolate and pistachio, done two ways. With wine (just a glass apiece) this was an economic experience... but worth coming back for the next special occasion
Found my experience at Morris Jones to be excellent! I had the chefs menu and not only was food was a real experience and very interesting, but it was also plentiful and satisfying. However the highlight was the service. We had David as our waiter who made perfect recommendations on both wine and cocktails and was very welcoming, making us feel at home. I highly recommend Morris Jones, particularly for dates and celebrations :)
tying her shoe laces. An artist has done the most beautiful fresco of a girl tying hee shoe laces on a grain silo. This can be seen from the rear bar. Its exquisite and beat enjoyed with a plate of oysters and some fine french. Now all this is certainly pretentious stuff, but wait you come do earth because its one of those wretched self service bars.
The staff, especially David, were excellent. Nothing wanting on the night. The chef made a memorable meal that was faultless. All in all, had a great night. All my friends were saying how special the meal and atmosphere was. I can recommend this as the best place in Chapel st to dine for any occasion.

Went for a drink and staff were ignorant and rude Never recommend this place Ignored us and chatted to other staff members We waited politely for nearly 15 minutes I had family visiting from Queensland Not very welcoming
We booked for dinner in the restaurant area which sits across from the excitable bar patrons. The food was absolutely outstanding and the service was to match. Well worth a visit!
