unhappy it says best. our last visit was not great, but we gave it to take-out/covid problems, and decided to try again when din in was available. drove 30 minutes to get there, eagerly anticipate our meal of halibut and fry. the prices are...up, quality and fish portions are far below. perhaps it is the changes in the personal (just saw a familiar face,) but the pommes were overdue and had sat down one; even with gravy, ketchup and malt vinegar they were hard to spit with a fork. the proportions of fish were again unevenly thick; parts were so overcooked, the dough coating was insensitive, and they reduced the total fish share size. their only server (wednesday to dinner) was beaten, but st...
Our recent visit to the fish and chips restaurant we have been loyal to for many years left us disappointed. It seems that the quality of the food has declined, possibly due to the pandemic and the switch to take-out only. The fish pieces we ordered, which were supposed to be halibut, were disappointingly thin and lacking in flavor. It took a long time for our meals to be prepared, giving us the impression that the kitchen may not have been fully operational. We may consider giving them another chance when dine-in service resumes and if we start seeing positive reviews again, but for now, we are hesitant to return. This is not the standard we expect from this restaurant.
Been going the restaurant which is now called Mr. Chips for over 20 years, was always the best. Recent last two visits were very disappointing. Ordered the halibut as always but found the texture of the fish not to be as firm as normal. I'm...now wondering is they are substituting with tilapia. Doing some research it's apparently similar to halibut but not as firm in texture. Has anyone else noticed the difference? Service is great, people are friendly, place is clean. I just don't like to be hoodwinked. I enjoy the halibut, that's why I order it. But I'm not enjoying whatever it is they're calling halibut now.
The restaurant consistently delivers excellent service with friendly and efficient staff. It is popular among locals, which speaks to its quality and affordability. The atmosphere is comfortable and clean, without any flashy decorations. Overall, it is a reliable choice for a busy, well-established local restaurant. Kudos!
Throughout the Covid lockdown, one of our anticipated pleasures was getting takeout from Mr. Chips, and we are always satisfied. The fish and chips are the best we've ever had! The service is top-notch, always prepared on time. Thank you for staying open and simply being there for us!
