This place scores 5 on the food hygiene ratings, which was a pleasant surprise, and the staff were very friendly. Fish was cooked fresh, and was a good sized portion with good chips. However, my meal was ruined by the lack of vinegar they put it on from a mist bottle like you use to water plants. I asked for extra, and it got another couple of sprays with the mist, but there was no option to put it on myself. In the end, I had to go to Nisa next door and buy myself a bottle to make the meal edible.OK, some people might not care, but I think fish and chips is ruined by not enough vinegar it wouldn't cost a lot more to leave a (normal) bottle on the counter for people to help themselves. Purchase of large Cod and chips at a cost of around £8.90 Whilst cost is not everything the size and quality of the fish was dreadful. A small piece of fish, in fact the smallest I have ever been served in a chippy when ordering a large. That was a small issue, the cod was clearly not very fresh, it was old and grey and mushy. The batter was ok but nothing better than you would get on a precooked supermarket frozen fillet. In fact an oven cooled supermarket option would be preferable. The chips were cooked probably for the second or third time, were very fatty, however they were refried at the time of purchase. If it wasn’t for fact they were hot the rating would be 1 out of 5. So disappoint...
The Masala table at this restaurant is excellent, and the chicken burgers are spot on. The mayonnaise here is my favorite compared to other places. There is plenty of parking available on both the front and side streets for customers to pick up their orders. However, I would advise against becoming a regular eater here due to the fast food nature of the menu.
This is the top chicken and fish and chips shop in Reading, the best location of Mr. Cod. They always deliver consistent quality with every order, everything is consistently excellent. The portion sizes are generous, especially with the chips, and the staff is consistently friendly.

I am a regular at this restaurant because I love their delicious Masala Fish Chips. The prices are reasonable and there is plenty of parking available in the area. I highly recommend trying their chili sauce pots, they are fantastic.
Usually a good chippy. But as with all chippies, if you catch 'em just before they change the oil you might be a little peeved. But to be honest, in all the years We been using 'em, that 's only happened twice to us!
I always go there for haddock and chips. Cooked to order, but your don’t mind waiting, because what you end up with is superb. Usually the best fish and chips is found at the coast. This Mr Cod does it just as good.

Excellent quality and quantity of fish and chips. Tasted amazing!! So fresh!! Best we had in a long time. Definitely recommend this place. Nice friendly staff.
