On The Border Mexican Grill Cantina

We go there at 7:10pm and we’re seated quickly (5 tables around us empty). Our waiter, Mitchell, got us drinks right away. Then, it took forever for him to take our order. Didn’t GET the food until 7:50, half was wrong. My wife didn’t get her order until 8:11, which was wrong, again. Had to wait 15 minutes after we ate to get the ticket and. We were out the door at 8:34. The food was not great. For an upscale place in West Des Moines, this was a real let down.

The food at At the Border is usually fantastic, but our experience today was quite different! We had the pleasure of being served by Jerry, who truly is the KING of customer service! He went above and beyond to provide helpful suggestions and was an absolute delight. Jerry made sure we were completely taken care of and 100% satisfied with our meal. We’ll definitely be back and will ask for King Jerry to take care of us again! Thank you, JERRY!

We have the most amazing waiter and the food was great! Perfect amount of seasoning not over salted or seasoned. Their fish tacos are one of the best items on the menu! The only reason I did not give five stars is because we relocated to the bar to have drinks after dinner and the bartender ignored us. So we went back to our table and our waiter was again amazing!

We just had the best experience at lunch! Raul is an absolutely amazing server! So attentive, friendly, and had refills out to us before our glasses were even empty. He was happy and had a smile every time we saw him! We go out to eat often and service has just been lacking everywhere we go. Not today! Way to go Raul! We will be back for sure!

I had a great experience at this restaurant! We were seated quickly, and the tables and restrooms were spotless. The service was outstanding—our server, Harrison, was excellent, and Alex was a fantastic host. The food was incredible: delicious, generous portions, and very reasonably priced. I can't wait to return often!

Chips are thin what I like, the salsa was great, had some spices on it. We ordered two different types of Fajitas, both were delicious and large quantities. You could taste the meat grilled over a real fire, not a grill top on a burner. Everything and everything impressed, the waiter was a professional.

Very delicious Mexican American cuisine. The red sauce on Chimichanga was particularly good! The prices are not overwhelming, but willing to wait for your food as they seem a little slow. Not sure if they need more workers or not, but most places run without full staff in these days.

My family and I absolutely love this place. Everything we have ever ordered from here has always been fresh and delicious. The staff is always very friendly and attentive. This is hands down one of our favorite places to eat at in the west des moines area.

Leah (the bartender) is AMAZING AND PATIENT…. And she make great guacamole live. Drinks, food and service were awesome!!!

I call their food texmex. Chips are good. They have a nice selection of margaritas. Try the empanadas.
